Emby IPTV via VPN - long winded question

First off, I am using emby on my unraid server (community app). I dont think that that matters because my question is.

If i setup an always on VPN on my unraid server but then use IPTV through the emby app on my tv, is the connection going through my unraid machine or directly to the internet from the TV.

I would obviously prefer to maintain my privacy but am not sure if thats the case here.

Can someone clarify please
