lifespeed 42 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 Recently I have been hearing popping and crackling sounds from TV shows recorded from my antenna using Silicondust HDHR4-2US and played back with ET on Windows 10. It seems to be in the recorded .TS file, as I get this same popping sound using MPC or VLC players. I don't hear these popping sounds when playing Live TV using ET. I'm not sure I have the server logs from the time the recordings were made, although I can try to find them if it would be helpful.
Luke 42085 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 Hi, that's quite strange. Have you noticed this on more than one channel?
lifespeed 42 Posted January 30, 2020 Author Posted January 30, 2020 At this point I can only confirm recordings from one channel have exhibited the problem. I just played live TV from this channel streamed over the internet without hearing the problem. I'll check tonight if direct playing the same channel is similarly problem-free.
lifespeed 42 Posted January 31, 2020 Author Posted January 31, 2020 Just watched a recording, no popping sounds. Weird.
lifespeed 42 Posted May 3, 2020 Author Posted May 3, 2020 Just watched another .TS file recorded from the antenna with a significant amount of high-frequency popping. This is from a channel (CBS 5.1 in San Francisco) that comes in at near 100% strength. I suspect the file audio is corrupted as it records, but I don't know how I would know this for sure, nor am I sure how I would prove it is present in the recording and not live. I just watched the channel live without audio issues, but of course this channel is rarely watched live in our house. If it is any help I can share the .TS file or server logs.
lifespeed 42 Posted May 3, 2020 Author Posted May 3, 2020 After querying the bay area TV forum, I am told it's a CBS problem. https://www.avsforum.com/forum/45-local-hdtv-info-reception/369015-san-francisco-ca-ota-613.html#post59585688
