Series extras with numbers in their names

I have an anime series with a load of extras which I have put into several differently named "specials" directories to keep them sorted.  These extras are not identified by TVDB (so there are no appropriate s00enn values).  Many of these files have numbers - for instance there are four "interview" videos called "interview 1" "interview2" etc.  Also the Ending Songs without credits vary by episode, so each is named for their episode.

However, every file with a number is "identified" by Emby as that episode of the anime, and so the episode name, the full episode description, and the associated image are what are offered to choose from.  This actually makes it impossible to know what is being selected in some instances.

I'm not sure I can see an easy way round this.  I suppose I can comprehensively edit and lock the metadata of a couple of several dozen files, but it'll be a pain.

Am I missing a trick?  Is there an easy way to get the files in just these directories listed simply by name with a thumbnail image?

If not, the easiest suggestion I have come up with would be if a directory could be marked as not to have its contents identified - just listed by their names.  This could be done by a special tag in the directory name, or by adding a special file.  Just an idea...

OK, I found a hack.  I prefixed the affected items' name with s00enn where nn varied in a range not recognised by TVDB.  If I made nn the same for all of them (my first try) they all became alternatives to be selected from the version dropdown, which wasn't what I had in mind.

Anyway, this solution will do, though it's a bit ugly.

Hi, can you give an example? Thanks.

I just added "interview 1-4.mp4" to a Specials folder of a Series and did not have any issue.  So yes specific examples are needed.

No need for more details, I think.  If I use a single folder called exactly "Specials" or "Season 0", then the identification behaviour is just as I expect and want.

However, in this case there are very many specials, and I want them divided into multiple folders.  I can do this (I name them "BD Extras", "DVD Extras", etc), but in this case as the names are not as required by Emby for specials, the contents are identified as episodes.  It would be nice it one could specify multiple separate specials folders, such as "Specials - BD Extras", "Specials - "DVD Extras" for instance, and have the presence of the word "Specials" cause the folders to be treated the same as just "Specials" - except without the folders being combined (which happens with "Specials" and "Season 0" for instance).

I also have a problem with two files being combined as versions which are not.  Their names are:

Alternate ep 14 recap, Act 14.0, 14.3 .mkv

Alternate ep 15 recap, Act 14.6  .mkv

These are being combined as versions of "Alternate ep", even though there isn't the "-" which I thought was required to mark the different version names. I don't know what's triggering that, as "Interviews 1" and "Interviews 2" are not being combined in that way.

My hack still gets me nearest to what I want.

He wasn't putting these inside of a "Specials" folder but was expecting the system to still treat them as specials.  Instead, the system treated them as normal episodes (if they looked like that based on their names).

Correct.  On reflection, I see that I am also relying on non-standardly named folders to hold seasons of series that I divide up differently from TVDB, so I can't suggest that folders not called "Season nn" should be seen as specials either.  Anyway, now I understand what's happening and can see that there is no bug to be concerned about.

I guess that basically I'm asking for a way to name multiple folders as specials without them being combined (in a test I found that "Specials" and Season 00" were shown by Emby as a single folder).  My suggestion would be that any name starting]/i] with the word "special" would be treated as a specials folder, but that only the exact names as now would be combined.

But as I have a workable workaround, feel free to defer or ignore this suggestion.

PS - the other issue I raised I'll make a separate thread.

Yes ok. How to organize specials is covered in our tv naming guide.

"Organise" as in "put them all in a single folder called Specials or Season 0".  It was my misguided attempt to actually organise them that led me to start this thread!

I'd instead say 'organize' as in put them in a supported structure and naming convention for TV shows if you want them recognized correctly.

For extras that don't have online metadata I suggest <show name> S00EX01 <Title>.mkv where X is the season number.  For example, 'Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero S00E101 Clean Opening Animation.mkv'.  This way the extras that came with a specific season group together.

I wish that that TV show extras were treated like Movies extras, you can put them into an extras folder and they appear in a sperate strip below the main film/episodes.
