After reading some of the comments, it might be worth skipping the update for the time being.

Yup looks like they are having a fair few issues. I only saw the flashing release notes issue but it looks to install fine on mine.

Just updated one my 2015 Shields and on reboot, it's telling me there's an update available.

 

ABOUT says it's still version 8.0.1.

I'm wondering if they've put a different image up, as originally it was 250Mb, whereas now, on a 2nd try, it's 905Mb.

 

All 3 of my Shields are now updated.

From a quick glance at the thread it looks like they put up the full update rather than an incremental. Mine was 250MB too and updated fine.

They really seem to be developing a bad track record with these initial updates...

Looking at the Change Log it doesn't seem they're changing much.

but to be fair to them they're still supporting 5 year old devices which for Android is great.

Seems like its been more miss that hit for these updates for a while now, I am leaving mine alone until I need to update. 

 

I currently have to leave color space switching off for it to actually work correctly. Which is odd but at least it works.

Isn't fixing color space one of the things in the change log? Maybe the biggest thing in the change log?

I thought there was something related to Dolby vision.

 

But they've messed up the color space thing so many times I'm not touching it. The hotfix that I'm on was supposed to fix it. But currently off=on. Although apparently 709 material is sent in a 2020 container. Which doesn't affect my setup but causes issues with some projectors.

Darn it, still not fixing the one bug I care about.  PGS subtitles where the text isn't filled in, just a black outline.

That is not an Nvidia issue.  The player simply doesn't support mult-layer PGS subs.

Just purchased a 2019 Shield tv. First thing I did was try to install EMBY. It won't work, as confirmed by their tech support who tried to do the same thing.

 

You cannot go to the OK button to sign in. I tried with the PIN, didn't work. I tried with manual sign in. There is no way to make it through after entering your info because you cannot get to the OK button at the end. Confirmed by Nvidia tech support who tried to do the same thing.

 

Also tried to login with IP address. Same problem.

Hi.  Just use the "back" button after entering your information and you will be back on the form and can navigate to "OK".

Ok, thanks that worked. Still couldn't get connect to work where Plex went off without a hitch. Tried multiple times before I entered my lengthy password.

FWIW  I updated 2 systems last night and have noted no problems.

 

Now i am just waiting on the new Emby app that was announced to show up so I can check it out.

Unfortunately, both stores have fallen on their face here.  We are working on it...
