r32nj 2 Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 I am using a Roku for playback and a ReadyNAS as a server. Up until a few months ago everything worked fine. Now almost every time I start a movie or TV show, the video starts perhaps 10 seconds into the file and the audio starts at zero. So the audio lags the video. I pause, then hit rewind once, then play and everything syncs up and stays that way for the whole show/movie. Any idea how to fix this?
ebr 16169 Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 Hi. Is an ffmpeg log produced during playback? How to Report a Problem
ebr 16169 Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 Hi. Instructions are in the topic I linked above. Thanks.
r32nj 2 Posted January 25, 2020 Author Posted January 25, 2020 (edited) Log file is attached. I just started playback of a TV Episode (Miami Vice) and had the same audio problem that has become common for me. The video started and the audio was out of sync so I paused, waited a few seconds and un-paused and the audio was still behind. Then I pressed rewind once, then play and the audio was then in sync again. Emby Server version 4.3.1.0 embyserver.txt Edited January 25, 2020 by r32nj
ebr 16169 Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 The name of that episode was "rising sun of death" and no ffmpeg log was generated? It looks like it is direct streaming which would point to this being some sort of Roku player/firmware issue.
ebr 16169 Posted January 26, 2020 Posted January 26, 2020 What about the Emby app on Roku? Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean... Our app just uses the built-in Roku player to play your file (that's actually the only option on this platform). Can you provide a sample file for testing?
r32nj 2 Posted January 26, 2020 Author Posted January 26, 2020 Not sure what you mean by "built in player" but I use the Emby app on my Roku.

Okay, our application just passes your video off to the Roku player for playback. If you can provide a sample that has this problem (via dropbox or similar) we may be able to look at it and determine something. Thanks.
ebr 16169 Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Your sample plays fine for me (in sync from the beginning). What model of Roku and what firmware version do you have?
r32nj 2 Posted January 27, 2020 Author Posted January 27, 2020 Roku model = 4640X (Ultra) Software version = 9.2.0 build 4807-29

It looks like it is direct streaming which would point to this being some sort of Roku player/firmware issue. That is what all signs point to. It was after Roku last updated the RokuTV that I can replicate the issue. I can also anytime it is an Xvid/Divx within an AVI. Since Xvid/Divx can directstream. I concur it is something Roku changed with regards to HLS.
r32nj 2 Posted January 27, 2020 Author Posted January 27, 2020 Thanks. I found the relevant thread on the Roku community forum and there a lot of complaints of this issue. I also installed Plex (I had it on my server already but did not have the client on my Roku) and it also has the same issue. EMBY support - you can stand down on this issue for now.

Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 (edited) My Roku 4 has done this for quite awhile now. It is random and annoying but I just skip back or pause resume to sync it. I do not see this behaviour on my Roku 3. Pretty sure at least the issue I see is not a Emby issue. Edited January 27, 2020 by Happy2Play

I used to have perfect playback on The Roku Streaming Stick+, but this happens for me now with no there changes to how I encode, my environment (part from Emby app updates). ROKU firmware would have been updated a few times though. My content is H264 or MPEG2 only in .mp4/mkv or mpg containers. Edited April 4, 2020 by unisoft
Luke 42077 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Xvid divx always tend to be tricky on lots of different platforms. Why not take advantage of emby server's media conversion feature to convert it to a more streaming friendly format?
