darwindeeds 356 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Yes please, media info will be very helpful. Please provide, file extension, codec, encoding, audio/video information, number of audio channels, audio encoding etc. As much information as possible. Is the web client transcoding?
chris3452 21 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I am running OS X server with the ipad mini and iPhone 5. Be kind currently switching from Plex have not figured out reading the logs well yet. I have movies that kick in the encoder when they don't need to. So far they are all 1080p movies h264 movies high 4.1 mp4s. I initially guessed that ffmpeg was transcoding everything with high 4.1, so I down graded a movie to main 3.1. It still transcoded. SD movies are main 3.1 and play fine without the transcoder. So could someone please read my transcode logs and tell me why the movie is transcoding. Chris ipadmini.txt iphone5.txt
Luke 42078 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 @@darwindeeds this actually depends on the criteria the ipad app uses when determining direct stream vs transcoding.
chris3452 21 Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Where can I go to determine the criteria being used. The file direct streams for other apps. I have the bandwidth maxed out. I need to see the log where it fails to determine what I want to do? Thanks for replying by the way Chris
Luke 42078 Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 It is the client-side logic, so the developer of that app will have to respond. What you might want to do in the meantime is post the media info here because that info will be useful.
chris3452 21 Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I have attached the transcode log, server log and media info. The web client is transcoding also on the same machine as the server. Not looking like an app issue, must be an server issue. Luckily I will be moving my server to a windows machine in the near future. Chris log.txt Mediainfo.rtf server-63538819200.txt
darwindeeds 356 Posted June 21, 2014 Author Posted June 21, 2014 That's for the info. What I have noticed is having more than 2 audio channels prevents the file from direct streaming to be enabled. @@Luke any thoughts on this? I noticed it with some of my files too. I have 1080p files that are mp4 but with 6 channels.
chris3452 21 Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I will test out some different configurations tomorrow. And hopefully pass along a more concrete answer.
Luke 42078 Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 well the video has multiple audio streams contained within, including a 2-channel stereo track. I haven't seen your latest code but you probably want to test and see if you can adjust your direct stream decision making. I know in the roku app for example, it is capable of handling this, but only if the stereo track is the first one. obviously you'll have to test with ios devices and adjust accordingly.
darwindeeds 356 Posted June 21, 2014 Author Posted June 21, 2014 Sounds good. I will take a closer look then.
chris3452 21 Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Actually I deleted all the sound except aac track and it still transcodes
