Existing Metadata for Existing Files, MB3 metadata for new files?

Hi All

So I have been using metabrowser for the longest time to control the metadata on my media centers. I'm looking to transition to MB3 metadata scraping. I know I can turn off metadata scraping in MB3 and use locally stored content. I've been doing this for a while as I tested MB3. I also know that you can store the metadata locally when media browser does the scraping. This is ideal as I have multiple Media centers accessing the same network based content, so having one machine do the scraping is perfect.

However, I'm wondering if I can transition to MB3 based scraping without having to remove all metabrowser metadata there already, and having to scrape all over again. I ask this because I see MB3 creates metadata files with a different naming syntax, and also location (for instance season posters are not in the season folder....they are in the series folder)

I'm also a Media Browser Classic user...solely....if this makes and difference. Media browser classic honours both formats, but is there a way to stop MB3 from scraping metadata for content that meta browser has already done (I dont want to end up with double metadata from my entire historical collection). Space is cheap, but I hate to be wasteful.

Would appreciate any insight.

Thanks

Ken

I moved over to solely Mediabrowser scraping a couple of months back after using Metabrowser for nearly 2 years.

I didn't clear out any metadata that Metabrowser made and MB will honour your metadata already there and use that also in MBC.

It should be a seamless switch over, itwas for me anyway.

Sounds like u have the server set to save metadata in xbmc compatible format because for me it saves season posters in the actual season folder and I have it set to media browser 2 format and my naming conventions are the same as what media centre master and metabrowser used before I started using MediaBrowser solely for all my data.

In the dashboard under metadata>basic do u have it set to "standard MB2"?

@@Yogi. Yep it honours it alright. And the user experience is seamless. Its the duplication of metadata at the backend that bothered me.

@@BATTLE DONKEY. That might just be the trick. Let me test and see what happens!

Thanks to you both for taking the time.

Yep. Changing the setting to Standard MB2 did the trick. Metabrowser does download the episode names for tv shows with a different name (numeric only) whereas mediabrowser still saves it as more meaningful name. However, no duplication occurs - only the missing metadata and images are grabbed - which is configurable. Thanks all! Onto the next thing :-)
