Fire TV VLC audio sync issue

Using 2nd Gen Fire Cube. VLC has a serious audio sync issue on encoded videos. Works ok on non encoded. I have to use built-in player for all my encoded videos but I prefer VLC because it is better with fast-forward/rewind. I know you can change the sync with settings in VLC, but that is a PIA to have to switch back and forth depending on what I am watching.

 

Any suggestions?
