Date Added problem

In windows date created, date and date modified are all the same. In emby server I have selected Dashboard-Library-Advanced I have selected "Use file creation date" but all my movies end up with todays date.  I have uninstalled and re-installed with same results.  Any way to get Emby to use File creation date from windows?

Hi, do you have nfo files? Remember that changing this setting does not impact existing titles in your library, so you'll need to configure it before importing them.

I don't have any nfo files.  Yesterday I copied my movies from an external drive to my hard drive.  I also changed the dates of the folders to agree to the movie dates.  So all is well in windows.  Somehow Emby is picking up the times when I copied the files.  I have since  pointed Library-movies-folders to my external drive and all is well.  Is there some way to re-copy or move the files to my hard drive so that the hard drive behaves in emby like my external drive?

What about the dates of the video files?

In windows date created, date and date modified are all the same.

By the way do you mean this as a general statement, or just for your files? Because as a general statement, this isn't true, they are two separate dates.

I ran some software to make all folder dates the same as the movie dates

Can you show a screenshot example of a movie? Thanks.

Unable to copy and paste.  I'll use Kodi instead of the emby addon and my dates are fine. Going forward I guess my future movies will be added with the proper dates and then I can go back to Emby once I've watched the current load of movies :-))

There are buttons to attach a screenshot.

@@Abobader Yeah I tried the buttons without success. I've reloaded the movies in groups based on window dates and although all the dates in emby are the same date I. E. Today's date the movies are sorted more of less ok. New movies are added properly sort wise. Thanks

You cannot just modify the folder dates, you must also change the created date of the media files themselves and then ensure you are 'moving' and not just 'copying' files to ensure the new dates are retained.

I didn't need to change the dates of the files as they were all ok that is the dates of when I first got the movies.  For some reason Emby is dating the media of when I added them to Emby and not any date that shows up in Windows Explorer. Although I have chosen to use File Creation Date in Emby settings. As I said I moved them in bunches so that at least the order is more or less correct although the date added is today. Thanks

For some reason

There is always an explanation, and if we look at a specific example, then we can tell you why that file got whatever date that it did. If you search the community you can find a few other similar topics such as this where users thought something was wrong, but then when we actually did a deep dive we found that date was in the file after all.
