Deleted files not being removed

I deleted a few movies from my system using the Emby web client.

They were removed from Emby and did not show up any more.

I did not think much more of it, this was months ago.

Then today I check and there are a bunch of these files still on my hard drive.

Emby seems to be ignoring them as a re scan does not pick them back up and put them back in the library.

Is this something new? Like an ignore instead of delete function or something?

I was under the impression if a files was on disk Emby would try and import it. But I have  20 or so files that Emby is ignoring and the only thing I can put it down to is that I once in the past deleted theses files.

Depending on the OS, Emby puts deleted videos in the trash folder. This may be what is happening here.

Nope, windows, and they are not in the recycle bin, they are still in the media lib dir.

The problem us not that they were not deleted from disk, perhaps they were at the point of deletion and I have accidentally restored then from my back up, it is not emby us now ignoring them.

Can you give an example?

I have a file

J:\Media\Kids Movies\Stuart Little (1999)\Stuart Little.mkv

I deleted this movie a while ago as it was a movie the kids said they did not want any more.

It was removed form Emby.

But the file is now either been restored or was never actually removed form disk, either option is ok. Perhaps I restored from the Recycle bin or I restored form my backups by accident. Not a big deal.

However Emby does not "see" the "Stuart Little.mkv" file, if I view the folders I can see the Folder "Stuart Little (1999)" but as far as Emby is concerned the folder is empty.

The movies also does not show up in the movies view.

A re scan does not pick up the movie file either.

Is there some active ignoring going on here?

The really weird thing is if I rename the file

Stuart Little.mkv - > movie.mkv

It now scans in the movie fine, and the super weird thing, if I rename it back

movie.mkv -> Stuart Little.mkv

then it also scans it in correctly.

The only thing I can think of is in the process of delete there is some sort of internal ignore for file being deleted added to Emby.

There isn't an internal ignore like that but yea this is strange. If you rename one of those folders and run a scan, is the movie picked up then?

Posted

yes if I rename the folder it is picked up and scanned in

Tested on one of the other movies doing the same thing

J:\Media\Kids Movies\Alvin and the Chipmunks - Chipwrecked (2011)\movie.mkv

renamed to (removed the  - ) from the path name

J:\Media\Kids Movies\Alvin and the Chipmunks Chipwrecked (2011)\movie.mkv

I am not able to reproduce this with my test system, this is happening on my main system.

Strange. I wonder if the other ones are still hanging around in the database. That's all I can think of.

Posted

any particulat place in the db I should look?

Posted

Yea you could look in the MediaItems table and do a query based on Path. All i can think of is that maybe they're still in there, which is why they don't get re-added by the library scan.

Posted

yes there is something there

this data is from the library.db

select *
from MediaItems
where Path like '%The Santa Clause (1994)%'

This item is not showing as a movie, it is showing as a Folder entry and a rescan will not refresh or add the movie to Emby.

This is TSV, copy past to excel might retain colums

Right and it still exists so it's not getting flushed out. I'll take a look. Thanks.

you can stop, I found the issue, turns out I am stupid.

I had set up some tags to ignore for my account using the "Restrict Items With Tags".

Instead of deleting I was adding hide-from-me tags so I don't have to see the kids movies.

So in effect there was some internal ignore happening, BY MY HAND!!!

oops, sorry for the time sync.
