Hello,
I can't play any 4k HDR movie on my LG C8 TV using Emby app as I used to. Whenever I start any 4k movie it launches and stops after seconds.

A few months ago my Emby setup was playing 4k HDR movies without any problem. Don't know what is going on.

I am using latest Emby apps on both Windows and my TV.

Please help !

what does stats for nerds or the admin page say for the reason for encoding?  were these same files that are now transcoding the same ones you were able to play a few months ago?  if not, it'd be a bit of a silly comparison.

Yes, same files exactly, stored on my 3.0 USB drive. Every other movie in 1080p or 720p plays flawlessly, but 4K HEVC HDR stops after 1 or 2 seconds.

The same movies used to play perfectly last time I used Emby, after a lot of setup (had to find the ".ass" subtitle for HDR movies to display correctly, also changed my Wifi setup to have enough bandwith). I have enjoyed Emby flawlessly since then. But I did not use Emby for a few monthes, and now it doesn't read 4k anymore due to a bug somewhere I guess.

Impossible to read "stats for nerds" as movie stops and exits after 1-2 seconds.
All I see after playback stops is an Emby logo and I'm back into the Emby library menu, or sometimes the Emby LG app simply exits and I'm back on the tv program !

This is really weird.
Thanks for the reply though.

It's burning in subtitles because lg does not support the subtitle format. Try turning subtitles off prior to playing.

Thanks a lot, that was indeed the cause, playback works fine without subtitles.

But I have another problem then: which subtitles supported on LG for HDR ? Since the .ass format used to work and now it doesn't, neither .sub and .pgs does.

Thanks for your lights.

Sub and pgs work just fine, it's just that they need to be burned in with video transcoding and so you'll need a server that is capable of handling that.

All plain text formats such as srt will work just fine.

The issue is solved with Emby Theatre for LG Smart TV version 1.0.24, .ass subtitle play works again.
Problem solved, topic can be closed I guess.
