aligntech 0 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 I have a very large collection of media that includes both raw footage and multiple versions of the finished edited footage and I'm looking at possibly using Emby as a way to share this out with clients. However, I'm not certain if the design structure of the Emby server will allow me to import all of my own information for each asset. Is this possible via API, XML, or some other fashion that I could handle programatically as opposed to structuring all of my media into a specific folder structure (which is not doable in my case). I have an asset management system that already houses all of the necessary network file paths for the media, metadata for each video asset, and customized tags for each movie....just wondering if there is a format to which I could convert that data to as a chron job to update the Emby library. I don't believe I would require any media manipulation\transcoding as I already have low-res mp4 files for every finished video asset and I'm only really needing the videos to play via web browser. This project may not be the right fit for my needs, but it seems like it's close so I wanted to ask. Thanks in advance for any feedback. The folder storage structure is what it is...no changes can be made to that structure without a complete overhaul of all of my processes. As a small example, my current storage structure might look like this, but there are multiple servers and many thousands of projects: Server1 TypeA Project1 Video1.1 Video1.2 Video1.3 Images(many) RawFootage CaptionFiles Video1.1.SRT Video1.1.SCC Project2 Video1.1 Video1.2 Video1.3 Images(many) RawFootage CaptionFiles Video1.1.SRT Video1.1.SCC TypeB Project1 Video1.1 Video1.2 Video1.3 Images(many) RawFootage CaptionFiles Video1.1.SRT Video1.1.SCC Project2 Video1.1 Video1.2 Video1.3 Images(many) RawFootage CaptionFiles Video1.1.SRT Video1.1.SCC
Solution Luke 42081 Posted January 9, 2020 Solution Posted January 9, 2020 Hi, the best way to import your own metadata is with nfo files. 1
aligntech 0 Posted January 9, 2020 Author Posted January 9, 2020 Thanks @@Luke, I just looked into the nfo file formats (actually via link you posted in the forum showing the Kodi nfo formats) and this looks almost perfect for my needs. However, I see all the direct path links and types that I spoke about except I don't see a movie path tag, which I would expect would be similar to the trailer tag where the full path to the video is provided within the tag. <trailer></trailer> Or...is the requirement of the nfo that the movie already be ingested (somehow) into the database (which is how it seems). If that is the case, is there a way to programatically add a movie into the Emby system without using a watchfolder of sorts..like just providing the full path to the asset and adding it if the listed path doesn't already exist in Emby?
Luke 42081 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 there's no movie path tag because the nfo file goes right next to the video file, so we already know where the video file is located.
aligntech 0 Posted January 9, 2020 Author Posted January 9, 2020 Got it. thanks. So my second part of my previous comment is the case then, where the movie must be in Emby for the .nfo file to be recognized. As such, is there a way to programatically add a new movie file into the Emby system without using a watchfolder\scanning process of sorts to automatically find a movie file, but instead providing a movie path specifically in some fashion?
Luke 42081 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Our suggest movie organizations can be found on our wiki: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Movie-naming The nfo file would be right next to it with the exact same file name. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
aligntech 0 Posted January 9, 2020 Author Posted January 9, 2020 Thanks. I think the answer is that what I want to do is not possible since I cannot re-organize\re-name my video files and it appears they must be in a properly organized setup to get them into Emby before I can use the nfo files for the necessary associations. I appreciate you taking the time to respond so quickly.
Luke 42081 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Hi, that's not exactly true. The movie naming conventions are recommended but it will handle just about any organization and file names.
