Guest asrequested Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 (edited) With mpv it's more complicated, because you have to include the GPU and CPU, as it will automatically choose CPU if the GPU doesn't support the pixel format. Example, if I used a GPU that didn't support 4k HEVC, my CPU is actually strong enough to play them. Edited January 9, 2020 by Doofus
rbjtech 5284 Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 ..or .. (and Doofus is going to hate me for saying this.. ) just buy a 4K Fire TV Stick and let it stream directly at the fraction of the cost of a NUC - and without all the hassle .. I personally moved away from HTPC's years ago - yes for your 'main' theatre screen, there are valid arguments they are the best option, but for 'standard' viewing, then imho you can't beat a TV 'stick' for cost, almost zero setup and ease of use with the included remote..
Guest asrequested Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 lol... Streaming devices have their place. If they fulfill your needs, why not They just don't fulfill, mine. But I would suggest a Shield TV if you go that direction.
diaz1510 154 Posted January 10, 2020 Author Posted January 10, 2020 LOL, all these options. We do more than just watch media on these clients, although it is what they are MOSTLY used for, so a streaming device is just not an option. But I am liking the Zotac stuff....it's been awhile since I've browsed the mini-pc market, but maybe it's time that I do. Although, if there was JUST some way to get emby to transcode these things, these little NUCs I have now are just fine for everything else we do with them. I wonder if the options that Luke was proposing (keeping in mind the complications of different hardware configurations) would ever come to fruition? As hardware on a client wouldn't change often/frequently, setting up Emby Theater to suit the actual device it's loaded by being able to select CPU or GPU as the priority or "tell" emby theater that the GPU is not up to speed despite the CPU being capable...
cue1boy 3 Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 I'm using DVDFab Player as external player on 2 pcs. Trying to play blu-ray rips, one pc plays fine using Emby Theater for windows. On the other pc (server and Theater on same pc) i get this message "Your computer hardware configuration does not support hardware decoding for 4k uhd blu-ray s." I think it should be able to play them fine. Intel core i5 cpu / radeon r7250 gpu. Any help please to get these to play.

cue1boy 3 Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 (edited) Hi, what gives you that message? It must be DVDFab Player that gives the message. I also have a Fire TV Stick 4k with the Emby app installed but that askes for a external player to be installed. Tried VLC but that doesn't seem to play blu-ray rips. Forgot to mention these are ripped to blu-ray folder format (2 folders inside main folder named BDMV and CERTIFICATE). Edited April 7, 2020 by cue1boy
cue1boy 3 Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 (edited) Used makemkv to turn the rip into mkv file. Looks like this gpu can't handle it (stalls like mad). My Samsung UHDTV played the mkv no problem at all using the Emby app from samsung app store. I have a Firestick 4k and that stalls playing the mkv as well. I am just a little confused as to how the tv can handle this yet my i5 cpu or gpu can't, and neither can the 4k Firestick. Edited April 12, 2020 by cue1boy
Luke 42078 Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 What are you using on windows to play it with?
Luke 42078 Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 Did you configure any video settings in the app?
