BobbyDing 56 Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 Hi. I'd like to add some old looney toons from the 40's to a library. Would I use tv or movies to get Emby to pull proper metadata? And what would be the best way to format the file names? As I don't think they have a season / episode associated with them. Has anybody done this? Thanks for any suggestions. Bobby
BobbyDing 56 Posted January 1, 2020 Author Posted January 1, 2020 They're cartoon shorts. Bugs bunny and similar. Bobby
BobbyDing 56 Posted January 1, 2020 Author Posted January 1, 2020 There was no tv when they were made. Only shown in theaters before the feature presentation. Then began on tv in the 1960's I would guess.
Luke 42080 Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 @@Happy2Play can you link him to similar topics because I know there have been some. I think @@Deathsquirrel may have responded in some of them as well. Thanks.
Coxeroni 26 Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 (edited) https://www.thetvdb.com/series/looney-tunes Thetvdb now's the Looney Toons as early as 1929. Just have a look there or at the movies and then you know which suits your case better. Just check themoviedb, there is probably nothing for you so thetvdb, and therefore TV shows, is your way to go. Deathsquirrel 745 Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 You have two options that include metadata. You can either set them up as TV or movies. Both work but I greatly prefer the TV approach as it's easier to manage. Standard naming rules apply so just match the naming of your metadata provider. Here are examples of each. Movie Example: \\<SERVER>\<SHARE>\Movies\Katnip Kollege (1938)\Katnip Kollege (1938).mkv \\<SERVER>\<SHARE>\Movies\Tortoise Wins By A Hare (1943)\Tortoise Wins By A Hare (1943).mkv TV Example: \\<SERVER>\<SHARE>\TV\Looney Tunes\Season 1938\Looney Tunes S1938E17 Katnip Kollege.mkv \\<SERVER>\<SHARE>\TV\Looney Tunes\Season 1943\Looney Tunes S1943E04 Tortoise Wins By A Hare.mkv If you use the movie approach you're going to need to build a BIG collection to hold them. The movie posters that you get also tend to be a mess. I prefer the TV approach as it's a lot less work. Sure, the season naming is silly, but you generally shuffle these anyway so you don't browse a lot.
BobbyDing 56 Posted January 2, 2020 Author Posted January 2, 2020 Thank you. I'll try the tv approach then. Bobby
porkbone 47 Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 I have an Animated Shorts folder set as Movies and with a Looney Tunes Golden Collection series folder. It works great for me! I have included some pix on how my library is setup and how it displays. I used to have this setup as TV with Seasons as years and it works, but I think this looks cleaner. I was also hoping the Cinema Intros would allow for a cartoon feature along with a trailer and bumpers. It breaks down to personal preferences so I hope this helps you decide. Mike
