wbestw 2 Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Would ryzen 3700 cpu be enough power I'am going to run mostly direct to tv or fire t cube or nvidia shield I want to play atleast 2 4k movies at same time do I need a graphic card ? I want to run linux or do I need a AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2920X (12-Core/24-Thread) Processor 4.3 GHz Max Boost 38MB Cache ?
Guest asrequested Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 First, if you're direct playing, you don't need much of anything. But if you're preparing for transcoding, the ryzen 3700 is a good solution. Take a look at this thread. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/76455-looks-like-ryzen-3rd-gen-is-the-go-to/
heypaleblue 2 Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 I'm doing an AMD build with a Second gen ryzen 3 chp and a dedicated GPU and only need a 500W PSU so not a lot.

wbestw 2 Posted December 31, 2019 Author Posted December 31, 2019 @ may have some ryzen input. do I need a graphic card ? to run a server i'am run movies to tv
Guest asrequested Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 You probably don't need a GPU with that CPU.
wbestw 2 Posted December 31, 2019 Author Posted December 31, 2019 You probably don't need a GPU with that CPU. So maybe get AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2920X (12-Core/24-Thread) Processor 4.3 GHz Max Boost 38MB Cache ? If I dont buy a graphic card ?
Guest asrequested Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 You don't need a Threadripper. Get a Ryzen 9.

Guest asrequested Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 No, a CPU https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SXMZLP9/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Guest asrequested Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 Do I need graphic card ? Not for transcoding. That CPU should be all you need. I have a gen 1 Threadripper, and that CPU beats it. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/56343-10-simultaneous-full-transcodes/
heypaleblue 2 Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 A cpu will just be for audio afaik. I'm doing 300-430FPS per stream with a 1650 super and the patched nvidia driver mentioned on this forum. I'm also using a G-series ryzen chip and honestly when I'm connected to wifi at the gym, a friend's house or at home I'm getting almost instant play.
Guest asrequested Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 The CPU will always handle the audio, with or without a GPU. Without a GPU, the CPU will do everything, which is what I do.

I was thinking this cpu AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core, 16-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor with Wraith Prism LED Cooler to run 2 4k movies at same time Edited January 3, 2020 by wbestw

wbestw 2 Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 That should be able to handle more than two 4k transcodes. Someones saying I need a An Nvidia P2000 or a GTX1050 with hacked drivers. to be able torun h.265 and future decoding is best performed by discrete chips present on GPU’s. ?
Guest asrequested Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 Not with the new Ryzen chips. They can do more than those GPUs can, with no hardware incompatibility issues.

You mean these AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2920X (12-Core/24-Thread) Processor 4.3 GHz Max Boost 38MB Cache ? or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core, 16-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor with Wraith Prism LED Cooler ?
Sammy 790 Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 My 3700x kicks arse! I do Use h/w transcoding in Emby with my GTX 1060 too. That combo barely breaks a sweat transcoding in Emby but running 4 simultaneous conversions from mpeg2/ts to HEVC/h.265 does give it a stress check with MCEBuddy using HandBrake..
Sammy 790 Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 BTW, @ the 3700x has no iGPU so a discreet card is required, no?
Guest asrequested Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 Unless you want to run it headless, but other than that, you only need cheap GPU for a monitor output. That's what I did on mine.
Sammy 790 Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 I'd sell my GTX 1060 but then I'd have to buy another GPU so why bother..
