Hi

currently running Version 4.1.1.0 on my windows server, i recently moved it from the default roaming folder under my user account, as this was domain joined and im planning on removing this, so it now runs from c:\emby-server

i want to update to 4.3.1.0 but from what i have read the installer will look for the default roaming folder and install there if not present ?

how do i go about updating, or should i move it back  to the roaming folder for future updates ?

Emby finally came out with a portable installer this year. That's what you'll want to use if you're not going to keep it behind the roaming folder.

What I would recommend is:

#1.) Download ALL the corresponding updates to ensure your database is up to snuff

#2.) Start a trial of premier (register for a month or register for lifetime)

#3.) Use the backup and restore tool plugin to backup your current directory

#4.) Install Emby Portable from the link provided

#5.) Restore from your backup

That would be the easiest, cleanest steps to mitigate a ton of troubleshooting.

Alternatively, you COULD use Symlinks to move the folders, but you'd have to also ensure the folder permissions are set correctly too.

As long as everything is working in its new location it should auto update there fine.  The dashboard shows the correct paths for cache, metadata, logs, and trancodetemp to the correct location?

But yes the installer will only install to one location user appdata.  You can get the portable/zipped system folder and manually replace the existing system folder if you need to.
