Emby on Firestick without internet

Recommended Posts

I have been reading a bit about this and am curious exactly what I am looking at:

I am a Premier lifetime member

I have a Emby Server on a Windows computer and will be streaming to a Firestick wirelessly within my remote house.

The computer and media will be stored on external hard drive at this remote location.

The house has no internet and there is rarely wireless phone service at this location. (for tethering purposes)

I am loading up the server with all metadata, etc at another location (with internet), and plan to use this for entertainment when going to remote location.

I have been reading and it appears the server will work for several days and then will not stream anymore?!

How many days will I have prior to this happening? (I think I read 3)

Any ideas, or a workaround to this? (other than dragging the computer home each time so it can connect)

Thanks!

Hi.  Exactly what features do you require at the remote location?  I'm thinking probably not Live TV, correct?

If that's the case, you could just purchase the app unlock and then you should be fine (as long as you don't require any Premiere features on the server).

Thanks, Just want to be able to access and browse media stored locally on external drive and to play media via the familiar Emby UI. I will download all metadata prior to taking everything to remote location so it is there on external. I will setup a wireless router there to stream throughout house.

Basically looking for the same experience as if I was at home, but not being able to reach out for updates, etc.

When I go back and forth, I could possibly add new movies via portable drive with images and nfo files from home.

Also the ability to access configuration on server to add/delete libraries and edit metadata there.

I do have a lifetime premiere license but you mention an 'unlock'. Exactly what is that and would I get that from app store or? (I know I could use Kodi, but hands down prefer Emby)

Hi.  The unlock is purchased via the app.  It is a one-time purchase.

What you'll need to do is remove your Premiere key from your server before connecting the app.  Then start the app and, on the bottom row, there will be an unlock button.  Go there and, instead of purchasing Premiere, select "Just unlock this app" and go through the purchase process there.  You will need internet/store access at this time.

Thanks.

Hmm is it now possible to use a firestick  with out internet connection ?

Mine will do nothing when not connected to the internet / Amazon.

Same here, I don't even see the apps when network is missing.

This is obviously out of our control but may very well be the case so you should test it...

There is nothing to test, without internet the OS on the FireTv Stick doesn't let you do anything but configuring your network or restart it.

I don't see a workaround for that...

Thanks for the confirmation.  That's unfortunate but I definitely see why they did that.

JDizzy - a different Android TV box should work though (a Mi, perhaps).
