Defineable Browsing Formats

I'd imagine this is a long time wish from a number of users.

There are many times when you are setting up special folders or libraries and you have a REALLY hard time getting it to use the Primary Image versus the Banner or Thumb. Even if you use all Primary Images in some of these cases, it won't convert to the Primary Size and instead will squish the Primary Image in a Banner sized image.

We really do need a method to force the browser function to show a specific type of image.

I'd anticipate this one being a harder one to implement because they design isn't necessarily super straight forward.

This should be purely an administrative definable item.

Hi there, I'm afraid I don't quite understand. we already allow you to select the image type you want to see. What else do you need beyond that?

This is one I felt made a lot more sense in context of the other thread, I wanted to get the thread split done and didn't have time to really go back to explain, so I figured I'd have to do some of that. My apologies on that.

So, there are a number of cases where I am trying to use a poster image format and Emby refuses to let me use it. In past iterations of Emby, it was a little better at auto deciding weather I wanted to use Poster Images or Banner Images for the browsing UI.

A good example is this:

Let's look at Batman TAS. It has a number DTV movies that I have found to be more useful in organizing the series by placing them in the Specials Folder of the series they are related to. In the past, I could force Emby to use Poster Images as the primary image instead of Banner Images, but now, when I assign a poster image as the primary, it just 'morphs' it into a banner image as the primary image.

I feel there should be a basic function that allows me to click on the primary image in the browser and tell it I want it to be a Banner Format or a Poster Format (or perhaps a few other potential formats) and to format poster.jpg as that type for browsing.

Additionally, I think we should also be able to manually tell Emby weather the particular piece of media is a Movie, TV Series, Season, Episode or Actor (I might have missed a major category there) so Emby can format the metadata correctly and go fetch information from the correct source.

Usecase:

I have the ENTIRETY of Power Rangers in a single series folder. I find this is one of the better ways to organize this particular series especially since no one can seem to really decide weather its one giant series, it splits up into individual series after season 6 or splits up into two series after the migration to Nick. If I'm trying to make the best presentation for people who use my server, I should be able to group the entire franchise into one series and individually tell each "season" where to pull from.

A similar argument can be made for series such as Doctor Who; especially when you have the mixed up nomenclature where the EU typically calls a season a series.

Why do you feel that Emby refuses to let you use a poster image format?
