railfrog 0 Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 (edited) I have three categories of TV Shows, movies and music. The Movies and Music have picked up 99% of the metadata and show the movie picture and also the album art for the music. However, the TV shows has only picked up very little metadata and is not showing the season thumbnails. It is showing the episode thumbnails, but the name is the file name that is downloaded and not the episode name. I have attached some screenshots. I have 60 TV Shows, but it is only showing the right information for 3 of them. Can someone point me in the right direction please? edit: I have just started to read the sticky on the TVDB API issues. Are they still not working? edit2: I have changed the season and episode metadata downloaders to TheMovieDb and it is still not working. Edited December 28, 2019 by railfrog
Luke 42080 Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 Hi there, have you compared your file and folder structure to our supported TV Naming Conventions ?
railfrog 0 Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 Hi there, have you compared your file and folder structure to our supported TV Naming Conventions ? Thanks for your answer and sorry for the late reply. The only thing I can see at the moment is that most of the folders and files do not have a year associated with them. This is the containing folder name: Madam.Secretary.S05.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264 The files inside are similar with the addition of the episode name. Will rename a folder later and see if it gets picked up.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 At a minimum you have to have a identified Series folder, then episodes, or Series/Season xx/episode (as shown in the wiki above) So this folder "Madam.Secretary.S05.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264" is actually a season folder not a Series folder.
Luke 42080 Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 @@railfrog, please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

Thanks. Sorry, I should have listed the episode as well. So the containing folder is: Madam.Secretary.S05.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264 And the series inside that folder is: Madam.Secretary.S05E01.E.Pluribus.Unum.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264
Luke 42080 Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 Is there a parent Madam.Secretary folder?
railfrog 0 Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 Is there a parent Madam.Secretary folder? No. It is as shown above.
Luke 42080 Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 So based on our wiki above, that's what you would need.
railfrog 0 Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 (edited) So based on our wiki above, that's what you would need. But surely, my containing folder is the parent folder with the episodes inside that. edit: I have just put the year into the title of the containing folder and it works. so from this: "Madam.Secretary.S05.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264" to this: "Madam.Secretary.2014.S05.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264" Please don't tell me that I have to do that with all the other containing folders? Luke 42080 Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 You need to use supported naming conventions based on the guidelines in our wiki. Thanks.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 (edited) Do to this naming "Madam.Secretary.S05.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264" it can not be a Series parent folder, it is a Season or unidentified folder. You should be able to have "Madam Secretary" as a Series folder with your "Madam.Secretary.S05.1080p.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.H.264" named season folder. So currently Emby is not to a point where you can have properly named episodes reside anywhere and still have them identified to the Proper series. Edited December 31, 2019 by Happy2Play

Luke 42080 Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 We plan to be able to accommodate more mish-mash folder structures in the future, but we're just not quite there yet.
Aaanze 0 Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 3 years later "more mish-mash folder structures" are still not handled, a shame, it's pretty much the only thing Plex handles better than Emby. Tired of having to reorder a ton of folders, reassign stuff manually when obviously it is possible to have everything fetched automatically with little to no effort

Tired of having to reorder a ton of folders, reassign stuff manually when obviously it is possible to have everything fetched automatically with little to no effort It is very easy to have 99.9% matching. All you need to do is name your files and structure them in the manner that Emby (or Plex) wants. - - - - For movies it is pretty simple: MovieName (release year).ext - - - - For TV shows it is a bit more restrictive: A basic format is: TV Shows <--- The library points here ---------TV Show Name (Year first aired if needed) <--- This folder holds the season folders ------------------Season 01 <--- This folder holds all the episodes for season 01 -------------------------ShowName - s01e01 - Episode Name.ext -------------------------ShowName - s01e02 - Episode Name.ext -------------------------And so on for the rest of season 01 ------------------Season 02 <--- This folder holds all the episodes for season 02 -------------------------ShowName - s02e01 - Episode Name.ext -------------------------ShowName - s02e02 - Episode Name.ext -------------------------And so on for the rest of season 02 ------------------Season 03 <--- This folder holds all the episodes for season 03 -------------------------ShowName - s03e01 - Episode Name.ext -------------------------ShowName - s03e02 - Episode Name.ext -------------------------And so on for the rest of season 03 This repeats for each show and you can have more than one "TV Shows" directory but the library needs to point at each of them. Note: The year after the show name is only normally needed or desired if there is more that one show with exactly the same name. Check http://thetvdb.com/ if you are not sure and match exactly the name used there. There are naming methods other than the above that work but this does work 99.9% of the time. If you are going to use Emby it is best to use the proper naming conventions so Emby makes the best match possible. Trying to force Emby to use other naming methods is just asking for frustration. - - - - You can clearly name your files any way you wish but, if you want to use Emby or Plex in the best way possible, then you need to follow the naming conventions. There are a huge number of tools that can help you with naming and structure. I use FileBot for most of the naming duties but I have other tools to help in some unusual situations.
