@mrtj18Please remove your screenshot or the Emvy api key immediately! I'll look into your problem at the weekend.

@mrtj18In the VirtualTV.xml configuration file (...\programdata\plugins\configurations\)is an entry <RequiresOpening>false</RequiresOpening>. Please change that to <RequiresOpening>true</RequiresOpening> and restart Emby. Does that fix your problem?

I just have to say THANK YOU for this plugin! I've only just switched to Emby from Plex after many years and throughout that time I've mentioned to my gf how much I want to be able to make my own TV channels that run constantly and this is absolutely perfect. I'll be sure to add feedback to this thread as I continue to use VirtualTV.

On a tangentially related note - does anyone have a good source for bumpers or commercials? I'm using archive.org and it's great however there are many instances where multiple bumpers are contained in one file which isn't ideal. ffmpeg would be an option and I should def get some experience with it but if anyone has any other sources I'm all ears.

Sorry for the double post, but I can't seem to edit my previous post. When setting bumpers and videos there are options for min/max numbers for videos as well as bumpers - what's the distinction? Is it length? I don't see any other reference to these in the settings so I'm unsure.

Videos are the normal library items that build the program. In other words, how many tv programs should be played before the set number of bumpers are played.

@pünktchenSorry for the long delay. But I was finally able to get the channel to show ( briefly ) on my tv through kodi.

I attempted the fix above, that didnt work. After doing the requested change. It had no effect, channel would still not play. I did notice however that if I went to the dynamic live tv section through Emby on Kodi, none of my channels would play at all. Even though I could watch them through the Emby App on my phone and through my desktop browser. So It gave me the idea something could be up with my kodi Emby addons, so I did the following.

I had to:

Uninstall all Emby Kodi addons. The Image, photo, video and service addons.

Re-install them all again.

Once the Virtural tv channel shows up. I have to click on the channel, wait a min or two, then select another channel for the channel to "bug in"

then the channel will play. Its not consistent. But I know, the virtural tv addon and kodi works.

Now I just have to figure out how to make it more consistent.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks. What would you think about adding distinctions between bumpers and commercials? Maybe even promos too? It would be nice to be able to specify 'after N videos play M bumpers/idents, O commercials and P promos' rather than have it randomly pluck them from the same list. It would add extra complexity to the UI so I could understand if you weren't interested. Thanks again.

I've set a few channels to be unavailable to some of my users, but that now means that at the top of the TV Guide, where it lists all the tags, I have several "VirtualTV not $username" tags visible - thus publishing the account names of my users to each other. Can these tags be anonymised somehow?

No. Then just do not use that inbuild feature. Enable the channels for all users and set the blocking tags on your own.

It's not really visible from your screenshot, but do you have guide data?

Then the usual questions: What playback mode? What client? Can you send me the log file with debug logging enabled in Emby and the plugin?

Hello everyone, I just found out about the VirtualTV plugin, I set it up so I can have a recurring stream for me to watch on the background. It seems to be functioning but when I try to watch it on any device I get errors, some just go back to the menu, some say no active streams, even though there's nothing else playing. (Never really understood the active streams issue). Any ideas would be appreciated! Thank you.

Do you have Continuous Playback set for your channels? If so, it seems you did not enter an API key under Playback Settings.

On a different subject, how come I only see 3 users in the "Enable this channel for selected Users(s):" portion of the Channel Configuration?

It should only list users with Live TV access in their profile settings.

One last question for now if you don't mind. How can I enable subtitles? I've checked the Burn-in subtitles (Only external text based or internal picture based subtitles supported) under General Playback Settings but it didn't do anything. I tried to set it on the TV but the remote won't really do anything except Pause and Play.

This should be dependant on the subtitle settings of the Emby user that you've chosen under "Common Conditions" of the channel settings. If you think it should work with that users subtitle settings, please post a screenshot of that subtitle settings so i can try to reproduce it.

I was talking about the subtitle settings that are under the app settings. They are not app dependent but tied to the user who is logged into the app. So please use your user "Live Channels" to log into Emby in any browser of your choice and then go to the app settings (gear icon).
