MBSki 1114 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Could a checkbox to hide a library from home be added to the Display Settings similar to how we can hide Trailers and Collections? I have about 20 libraries, and would rather have the less frequently used libraries on a separate page. If they showed up only in the side nav like in the web app, that would work, but not every app has that side nav, so some other screen would be needed to access the hidden libraries.

MBSki 1114 Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 Sounds like really you're asking for this...? Sub Library Yes, the "I'd like to have all my TV in a TV category.. " part would definitely work, assuming the UI is easy enough to navigate. Of course, it would need some beta testing and tweaking to get it to work for everyone. I liked how Plex implemented "content type category grouping", but most didn't so it was removed in favor of a focus on favorite libraries and the ability to jump to more libraries when needed (https://www.plex.tv/blog/uno-everywhere/). Main point of the Plex interface is the focus on favorite libraries with a link to More for the other libraries. This works reasonably well and seems to be more appealing to most users. From the Sub Library post, I don't really need the sub libraries, but I can see how that would be a useful feature.
ebr 16184 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 From the Sub Library post, I don't really need the sub libraries, but I can see how that would be a useful feature. But, if you re-organized your libraries into higher-level categories (i.e. sub-libraries), This would give you what you are asking for here - some libraries not shown at the top level and, instead, on a separate page. Correct?
MBSki 1114 Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 I'm not understanding how sub-libraries helps me. I don't need that extra layer based on the number of libraries I have. If I had 50+ then maybe I would, but at 20 libraries it's overkill. Plus, it's much more complicated than it needs to be. Take a look at the screen shot I attached. A handful of libraries are shown, and a More link to get to the rest. Simple. And doesn't require "re-organizing".
Luke 42078 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Regarding favorite libraries, why not just reorder them to put your favorite ones first. If you want to completely remove one then you can do that with user access permissions to hide it from the user altogether.
MBSki 1114 Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 I've already re-ordered my favorites. And completely removing them from my user account doesn't help because I still want to see them under my account, they just don't need to take up so much screen real estate. It's just a suggestion that would make the UI more user friendly. It's not major, but it would still be an improvement.
Luke 42078 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 If you take it off the home screen, how will you access it?
MBSki 1114 Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 If you take it off the home screen, how will you access it? That's why I attached the screen shot. It doesn't work without the side nav like in the web app. If all the client apps had that side nav like in the web app, I could access the hidden items in the side nav. Or, just drop a "More..." button at the end of the list of libraries. So, just adding the hide feature isn't enough. One more change is needed to make it work. A More button is probably simplest because it wouldn't require an update to all clients to add a side nav.
Luke 42078 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 It would still require updates to all apps, unless we try to kludge it into the top level api somehow. But even then I suspect there will times when you need to pull all of them down, including the hidden ones, and times when you don't. So i would suspect this type of option would require case by case re-evaluation of every single place that works with the top level library list.
MBSki 1114 Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 Yea, I would hope it would be less intrusive then adding a side nav for every client app, but understand that it's an update regardless. Getting UI right does take a lot of time to make sure all users and different scenarios are addressed. A quick change would be nice for this, but maybe a more substantial UI redesign is needed first. I believe you're already looking at some UI redesigning, so I'll try and follow those topics to keep up with the proposed changes. I might even be interested in beta testing if needed.
