MisterAngelus 7 Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Is it possible to convert to hevc 10bit or is that not supported yet? Also what's better to use between these two? DX11VA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 NVDEC GeForce GTX 760 I know it's an old card but it works well Thanks
Luke 42085 Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Hi, no it's not possible at this time. Why would you want to?
MisterAngelus 7 Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 hevc 10bit is a bit better quality then the normal 8bit judging with my eyes and the encodes i see
Luke 42085 Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 What is the source file though that you'd be converting from? Is that 10-bit already?
MisterAngelus 7 Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 I haven't tried lately but when I did try it converted the 10bit back down to 8bit I know you can convert to 10bit hevc using handbrake...
MisterAngelus 7 Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 in Emby the 10bit file reads under Pixel format yuv420p10le in Emby the non 10bit file reads bit depth 8 bit pixel format Pixel format yuv420p and Emby will convert the 10bit back down to 8 cause I had a TV season with some of both in it Just like it converts 4k to 1080p or at least it did last time I checked
ebr 16190 Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Yes but if the source is 8-bit color, converting to 10-bit isn't going to gain anything... The extra color information cannot be "inferred". It would be like taking a 3mb/s source file and re-encoding it at 10mb/s and expecting a quality increase.
