saifmali26 1 Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Suddenly, after months of working flawlessly my Emby is having connection issues. When trying to launch the emby server from my laptop, I get the message posted below. When I try to log in via http://app.emby.media/, it takes me past my logon prompt and I am stuck a the server selection screen which says it cannot connect to the server. I tried the connection troubleshooting guide and none of the information was inapplicable. I tried a few different links to access my account and see if I can update my software, and I don't see this option either. I was initially very happy with Emby and even signed up for a Premier membership. I`m hoping the fine folks will help me resolve this issue. This site can’t be reachedThe connection was reset.
Luke 42078 Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Hi there, are you sure the server is running? Are you inside or outside your local network when attempting to do this?
saifmali26 1 Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 I installed the server on my laptop. I see it running under services, so assume it is operational. However, I could be wrong. I am inside my network at home at the moment, on the same laptop the server is installed.
Luke 42078 Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Are you able to use the local web app by opening it from the start menu icon?
Luke 42078 Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Or sorry I mean the tray icon near the clock.
saifmali26 1 Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 When I try to use the local web app, I get the screen below sir: This site can’t be reachedThe connection was reset. Try: Checking the connection Checking the proxy and the firewall Running Windows Network Diagnostics ERR_CONNECTION_RESET
Luke 42078 Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Try shutting down the windows service and then just starting it up normally as an application via the windows start menu. Let's see how that compares. Thanks.
saifmali26 1 Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 Just tried, same result. Getting multiple sessions in fact.
saifmali26 1 Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 I click on it from the install directory and it launches multiple icons the taskbar next to the clock. Are there any log file I can send you perhaps?
Luke 42078 Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Yes the emby server log would be great. Thanks.

Luke 42078 Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Are all available windows updates installed?
saifmali26 1 Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 I have 3 important and 60 optional left...guess the next step is the install all of those?
saifmali26 1 Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 I'll download them all now, will probably take several hours, so I'll check back tommorow. Thanks for all the diligent help so far man, much appreciated.
Luke 42078 Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 I think it would be a good thing to do. The other thing you can try while that is in progress is installing the server again from the website on top of your existing installation.
saifmali26 1 Posted December 17, 2019 Author Posted December 17, 2019 I`m all up to date on Windows Updates, I also tried re-installing Emby to no avail. Still the same timeout error.
saifmali26 1 Posted December 17, 2019 Author Posted December 17, 2019 Wont let me install on top of my existing install btw.. Getting the server update fails error. Tried what's mentioned in this post and no dice. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/33779-server-update-fails-could-not-move-system-directory-to-backup/
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Wont let me install on top of my existing install btw.. Getting the server update fails error. Tried what's mentioned in this post and no dice. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/33779-server-update-fails-could-not-move-system-directory-to-backup/ That would mean Emby is running while you tried to reinstall. As that topic mentioned, did you ensure Emby was shutdown before reinstalling?
saifmali26 1 Posted December 17, 2019 Author Posted December 17, 2019 Ok, resolved as follows: 1. installed ALL Windows 7 Updates 2. Did a clean restart of my machine 3x 3. On the 3rd restart, I right clicked on the icon by the clock and exited from Emby 4. Downloaded the latest Emby server and it successfully installed I think the mistake I was making after my previous clean restarts was double clicking on the Emby icon (by habit) which probably puts a hold of some sort on the folder structure and prevents the update from occurred. Cheers fellas, I really appreciate all the attentive help. Happy to be a premier member, am extremely appreciative for all you guys do. 1
CHERYLHAYES 0 Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 I have this same issue with the app on my firestick any clues on how to get it working

Is it using SSL or non secured ports? Is the TV in the above picture on the same LAN as the server or is it remote?
