Bigmack3000 107 Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Tried searching this first, but because "3D" is less than three characters it was excluded from searches. If I'm importing a 3d bluray rip made from makemkv, is there anything else I have to do to make it compatible with Emby? Also, would it be possible to compress this with Emby convert?
Luke 42077 Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Hi, no, but i would suggest using our 3d file naming so that the server will be aware of the 3d format: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/3D-videos Also, would it be possible to compress this with Emby convert? If you run it through the convert feature it will be converted to 2D, so the 3D feature will be lost.
Bigmack3000 107 Posted December 17, 2019 Author Posted December 17, 2019 Ok so i got the 3d file to work with my TV, but for some reason Emby is separating the 2d and 3d versions even though they are both housed inside the same folder: Is this standard for 3d releases? Should I put 3d versions in their own folder? They are currently named "Pina (2011)" and "Pina (2011).3D.MVC". Also, will Emby convert successfully compress a 3d file?

Should I put 3d versions in their own folder? They are currently named "Pina (2011)" and "Pina (2011).3D.MVC". Also, will Emby convert successfully compress a 3d file? Firstly, did you take a look at the page Luke linked above? It shows you how to name them when you have both a 2D and 3D movie in the same folder. And secondly, does the name of the folder match the name of the video files (minus the file type and version name)? I believe that for Emby to recognize them as separate versions of the same movie, you have to have the folder with the same name as the video files too. It was that way, last I checked, for proper multi version naming. Edited December 17, 2019 by samuelqwe
Bigmack3000 107 Posted December 17, 2019 Author Posted December 17, 2019 Yea, I copied this filename suggestion from that page "moviename (year).3d.hsbs.mkv". But I guess the "." doesn't work when you have a 2d file as well, so I'll "-" example. The folder is labeled "Pina (2011)" so I don't think that's the problem.
Luke 42077 Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 What is the folder name and what are the file names within it?
Bigmack3000 107 Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 I kept the 2d as "Pina (2011).mkv", but changing the 3d to "Pina (2011) - dc.mvc.mkv" instead of the "." fixed it. They are now both housed in one spot. The only question left is if the emby convert can compress a 3d file. If this is unknown, I'll try to test it overnight.
Luke 42077 Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Thanks for the feedback. It can compress it, but it will be converted to 2D.
Bigmack3000 107 Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 Ah, ok thanks. Anyone have any tips on how to compress a 3d mkv file?
Luke 42077 Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 You're going to lose the 3d no matter what tool you use to convert it.
Bigmack3000 107 Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 Oh, interesting. So 3d files have to stay fully uncompressed?
Luke 42077 Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 To compress means re-encoding and I doubt anyone is encoding to 3D.
Bigmack3000 107 Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 That's good to know. Thanks.
