ZenecadE 0 Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 (edited) I am running version 4.3.0.30 Emby Server on a Windows 10 desktop computer. This is a new installation and I have given it all the time it needs to build and update the library. I was setting up collections when I noticed there are a huge amount of movies not showing up in the library. When issuing a rescan, the missing movies still don't get added. My movies are spread across more than one drive and each movie is in its own folder. Further investigation shows that an entire folder (F:\Movies) seems to be ignored. All other movie folders work just fine and their contents are added. It's just the one. I have removed the folder from the library config, run a rescan after restarting the server, then added the folder again but it doesn't look like that worked. Kodi is installed on the same machine and has the same folders set up. There is a huge difference in total movie count between the two. Edited December 15, 2019 by ZenecadE
ebr 16169 Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 Hi. Did you point any other library to a sub-set of that same folder? e.g. F:\Movies\anything else...
ZenecadE 0 Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 No. I had a look at the log from the server dashboard and can see where I remove the folder then added it later but cannot find that anything from within the folder being scanned and added to the database, despite the log showing that the folder is being monitored. As a test, I copied one of the movies to another drive and a few minutes later the movie showed up in the library. The one in the library was from the new location. I tried to add a screenshot but don't know how. This editor gives an error that only image files are allowed but it is a .jpg.
ZenecadE 0 Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 I did that. I browse to the emby.jpg file, select it then when I press upload I get the error saying only image files are allowed.
ebr 16169 Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 You press the "Upload" tab before you select the file.
ZenecadE 0 Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 (edited) I did that. 1. Click small green icon thingy 2. Click 'Upload" tab 3. Click 'Browse' button 4. Navigate to desktop and select emby.jpg and press 'Open' button. (emby.jpg now shows next to browse button) 5. Click 'Send it to the server' 6. Get popup error "Wrong file extension, only images are allowed here." I double checked the file on the desktop and can open it with an image editor as well as Preview. ZenecadE 0 Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 Screenshots aside... Anybody have any ideas why the library scan ignores one folder?
ZenecadE 0 Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 I tried sharing the folder then adding it as a network share and still, Emby ignores the folder. Is there anybody willing to help please.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 So if you made a new folder on your driver (F:\Newfolder) pust a couple movies in it and added that folder to a New Library, does it appear?
ZenecadE 0 Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 I created a folder on the same drive with the ignored folder and copied the first 6 movies into the test folder. After adding the test folder to the list of movie folders, the movies were successfully added to the database. Bugger me if I knew why h:\Movies is being ignored
ZenecadE 0 Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 I removed H:\Movies from the Movies library then created a Movies H library and added only H:\Movies to that. Then forced refresh metadata on Movies H library and nothing happens. In Metadata Browser, Movies H library is empty. Has anybody got any other clues for me to follow? This is becoming increasingly annoying.

I can only assume the H:\Movies has a issue or created a issue within the database. So creating a new path should resolve the issue. How did the drive letter change from F to H?
ZenecadE 0 Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 (edited) F: in my original post was a typeo on my behalf. There is a movies folder on F: and my initial test when copying two movies from h:\movies to f:\movies may have had something to do with that. Sorry for the confusion. I ran scandisk on H: can it came up with issues in h:\Movies\Rambo 4 but nothing else. Kodi doesn't have an issue with the path on the same computer, neither does Kodi on another laptop which points to the same folder but using a network share. Creating a new Movies 2 Library and adding the network path to Movies 2 library does nothing. Log seems to remain empty on attemts to do anything in that folder, unless I'm misinterpreting the log data which is very possible. There have been extended power cuts on a daily basis and my battery backup doesn't keep the server on beyond 2 hours. It's possible these outages have caused corruption as I am not always home to turn off the computer. How would I go about correcting a potential issue within the database, assuming the problem is there? Edited December 14, 2019 by ZenecadE
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 If your devices are not powering down properly, then yes there could be corruption. To me you have already proven a issue, if you can create a new folder and library and those items are seen. I created a folder on the same drive with the ignored folder and copied the first 6 movies into the test folder. After adding the test folder to the list of movie folders, the movies were successfully added to the database. It sound like you need to move to a new folder or try to start over with a new database. But we don't know if something within that folder is causing the issue. You may want to post a server log to see if we see anything.
ZenecadE 0 Posted December 15, 2019 Author Posted December 15, 2019 Ok, I removed emby and deleted all emby folders under appdata. Then re downloaded emby and started with a fresh setup and library. This time, only giving it h:\movies. I enabled debug logging, restarted the emby server, went to librarie and refreshed metadata and and re scanned library files. I cannot see anything in the log that indicates why emby still refuses to work with this folder. I have attached the log file. Please gurus, help me get to the bottom of this infuriating issue. embyserver.txt
ZenecadE 0 Posted December 15, 2019 Author Posted December 15, 2019 I checked the h:\movies folder permissions and ownership and all seemed right. Regardless, I redid the folder permissions by changing some rights and applied to all subfolders. I then went back into folder properties and allowed full access again to all users and reset ownership to my Windows user and applied to all subfolders again. I then started Emby server, rescanned and again, nothing happened for H:\Movies. I then renamed the folder H:\Movies to something else, created a new H:\Movies then moved the contents from H:\Movies temp to H:\Movies and finally, Emby started reading and adding the contents of H:\Movies. Now to wait a few days for the Movies library to rebuild. It's super slow but I will wait. Thanks for the attempts to help me.
