MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Locally on my LAN and WiFi access is flawless and speedy. Remote access doesn't work unless I switch on DMZ. I've read in another topic on this forum that bridge mode is the solution. Not for me because then internet is totally gone. Attached all the info you need (I hope) The blank WAN IP's now have my 82.xxx.xxx.xxx address in it. When everything works I'll try blank because I often use a VPN with varying IPs.
Luke 42081 Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Hi there, I would suggest checking out our Connection Troubleshooter: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Connectivity Please try the steps listed there and let us know which ones succeed and which ones do not. Thanks !
MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted December 10, 2019 Author Posted December 10, 2019 Luke, each and every step works if DMZ is on. With DMZ on Emby works flawlessly from every remote device. Just incase my WAN config is the problem, I attached that config screen too.
Luke 42081 Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Well you have to let the traffic through somehow. If you're not going to use the DMZ, then your other option is port forwarding.
MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted December 10, 2019 Author Posted December 10, 2019 I know and that's shown in the first picture in the first post.
MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted December 10, 2019 Author Posted December 10, 2019 Yep, it's off. See attached picture. I really hope I can get this working. Yesterday I became a lifetime Embrio Emby user :-)
Luke 42081 Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 This is a really a question specific to your router. A while ago, a user wrote this guide: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/1563-port-forwarding-a-guide He added an interesting note about Zyxel: Some routers such as those manufactured by Zyxel require a two stage configuration of port forwarding due to their more sophisticated functionality. Perhaps @@berrick can elaborate on that.
berrick 30 Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 OMG!! have you seen the date of that article I wrote @@MyMediaAtHome send me a PM and I will see if I cant help you get this sorted
MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 @@berrick I will PM you as soon as I've finished one last lenghty test. I found a thread on another forum from someone with exactly the same Zyxel modem and setting up FTP. He like me also tried bridge mode. And then internet is totally gone. The solution seems to be just wait serveral hours...
berrick 30 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 @@MyMediaAtHome OK. However you shouldn't normally need bridged mode and when using bridged mode you need a modem to terminate the DSL and a device to connect to the modem which can handle PPPoE. Is this what you have?
MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 (edited) I was doubting it would work anyway, because the person has a router behind his modem. I've nothing behind my modem because it's also a switch and the router stuff is also part of the modem. 2 years ago I wasted days of my life getting ftp working.... I also plan setting up a simple file server. I think my best option might be to switch on DMZ, then install an application based firewall (Tinywall a good choice?), block all traffic and only give a few apps internet access. Solution MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Solution Posted December 12, 2019 SUCCESS! Give me the dombo award..... My modem is used on 8 types of networks and defaults all rules to ADSL. Setting it to VDSL was like magic... 1
MyMediaAtHome 2 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 Well, at my real job I would have been fired for wasting 3 weeks on a 3 minute setup :-)
berrick 30 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Well done! glad its sorted. I will go back to sleep for another 7 years lol
