markymarc35 0 Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 Hi, newly converted Plex user here, I have a question concerning licencing, i installed the server on my FreeNAS machine, got it to work, got a premium licence and added it to my server. I created a connect account and linked it to my user in the server. So far this work perfectly and i would like to have information on the offsite family members that i want to give access on my server. I know that they will need to install the client on whatever device they want to use but will they have to get a premium licence as well? I'm guessing that they will need a connect account as well so that i can link them on the server.
Scott D 69 Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 Family members do not need a premium license. The Premium features and license are tied to the server. Note - See the limitation on the number of users of premium features. It should not be a problem, but good info to know. As far as the connect account, it does make things easy for connecting to your server, but you can also do it direct if you have a fixed IP address on your server or a DynDNS pointer. Personal notes - Make sure you watch your data usage. Consider bandwidth limits if you are on a capped internet provider. Also, be sure to have sufficient "upload" speed on your server internet connection to accommodate your family members. All in all, it is a fairly easy process to get Emby up and running.
markymarc35 0 Posted December 8, 2019 Author Posted December 8, 2019 Thank you Scott. The 25 users limit on the premium licence is more than enough for my needs, we're talk about 10 users max, i have unlimited data on my internet connection and it is more than sufficient when running the Plex server so it should be ok for Emby. I'm glad i found Emby, "fairly easy" to get it up and running is an understatement I have been running Plex for some years now but i don't like where they are going and looking for a replacement and found Emby.
