Mad Man with a Blue Box 2 Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Am I doing something wrong or is this feature still buggy? I have tried multiple combinations of checking or unchecking the boxes for which trailers I wish to see and I only ever seem to be able to get old movie trailers to play. For example, I set it to play 4 trailers before movies and selected a random movie on my server via the Android app on my phone, it began by playing a trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, then I chose another random movie and it showed me a trailer for Swordfish, then Blade Runner, next I chose to play Die Hard (it is almost Christmas after all lol) and this one I found funny at least, it showed me the trailer for Die Hard 2. I thought this was working good a while back when I last tested it a few months ago and then I disabled it as not everyone in my household liked the trailers playing. When I check for it to only show me trailers from new and upcoming movies it only plays trailers for old movies, the most recent so far being 2017. I have rebooted the server after settings changes and reloaded the app etc. but get the same results. I tested by choosing each one of the 4 options individually and they all resulted in no trailers playing apart from when checking the first one, and then only ever playing old trailers. Also, if I uncheck all 4 options but check the include trailers from movies in my library option then it plays random old trailers just like above and not local trailer files from my library. Any suggestions?
ebr 16187 Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 Hi. Do you see more recent trailers in your "Trailers" channel?
Mad Man with a Blue Box 2 Posted December 3, 2019 Author Posted December 3, 2019 The trailers channel is full of movies. The movie trailer archive section has over 1860 trailers from 2016 all the way back to the 30's. New and upcoming in theaters only has 74 total trailers mostly stuff that came out recently and a few things from this month and next year. The DVD & Blu-ray section only has 39 videos that were all released in 2017, so nothing new and upcoming like the section title suggests. The Netflix section is similar with only 42 trailers and all of them from 2017. It seems that the only trailers that are being picked when playing before my movies are from the archive section, regardless of the settings chosen. No idea why. Just throwing it out there but it would also be nice if there were trailers for TV shows too, especially for playing before episodes of TV shows (or every x number of episodes) rather than playing trailers for movies.
ebr 16187 Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 Do you have the option for parental control turned on for Cinema Mode? One issue with trailers is that many of them are not rated until right before the movie actually comes out. So, if they have no rating and you are blocking unrated content, then they don't get picked.
yaksplat 68 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 I came here because i was having the same issue. It makes sense, but wouldn't it be possible to have unrated trailers show for movies that are above a certain configurable rating? I don't want to have unrated trailers show up before my kids movies, but i'm fine with them showing for rated R movies. If that would make current, unrated trailers show, it might be a good solution.

Are you referring to your own local trailers?
yaksplat 68 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 Are you referring to your own local trailers? No, just what's coming in from the trailers plugin. I don't have local trailers enabled.
Luke 42083 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 The trailers need to have a rating. We use the metadata providers to try and fetch it. Do you have a lot of trailers without ratings?
ebr 16187 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 It is quite common for trailers of un-released movies to not have ratings as the ratings are often not finalized until just before release.
yaksplat 68 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 That's what I'm saying. If the rating is null, you should be able to map them all to a specific rating. within the trailers plugin: [checkbox] map all unrated trailers to have a rating of [ratings dropdown]
crusher11 1102 Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 If the trailer itself doesn't have a rating, does or can emby instead use the rating of the film the trailer is for?
Luke 42083 Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 We already do a metadata lookup to try and determine the rating yes.
Xorp 48 Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 Was there ever a fix for this? I have only "Include trailers from new and upcoming movies" selected but with 2 trailers to be played, one is almost always old and often both are, and not even available in the "New and Upcoming in Theaters" page.
