emby doesn't recognise my mp4 anymore

i hope this is the right place to put this. maybe i'm not searching properly?? i can't find any info on this that i'm able to decipher. i saw a couple things but they're in computer-ese and now my brain hurts from trying to understand.

before this last update i watched everything no problems, same everything....just now emby can't see my mp4. i looked in my files and they are definitely there, no accidental deletion or anything like that.

from what i am able to understand there's a codec issue?? when i first googled the problem i got several hits from third parties who want me to convert the mp4 to solve the  problem. i think that can't be right....who would convert hundreds of files just so they can use emby???

anyway, kiddos aren't up yet so i still have a window of usable time where i might actually be able to rub two thoughts together and i thought, gee, maybe those awesome folks at the forum can help :^))  And then i had to figure out where to post my question....

kind and generous emby gods, please bestow a miracle upon me!!

sorry for yelling.

i'm not tech-y....i thought this was going to be easy but here i am spending another weekend trying to figure out what's wrong with this stupid thing. so i'm annoyed. extra annoyed because the weather is crap kids are trippin about where's their storybots and why can't they watch blah blah blah....

so....can't watch mp4. android doesn't see them at all, roku sees the files but gives playback error.

and now i can't update too. i think that one will resolve itself shortly??? idk. talkin to myself.

Can you share the video? With a gdrive or something like that?

I hardly even know where to start. Which video? What is it that you want me to do with my g drive? lol omg...

I can/do share Many videos. They currently reside on a drive labeled g.

I swear I’m not being an Ass on purpose.

lol.....by gdrive, I meant a Google cloud drive. But it sounds like you don't have something like that :)

Let's try a different approach. Hopefully you know how to take a screenshot? If you look at the video info page in the web app, scroll to the bottom, and you'll see the details of the video. Post a screenshot of those.

Hi there, why do you feel Emby can't see the file? Can you please go over a specific example? Thanks !

D: when I can get back into the zoo and access the machine I will do that

Luke: I go on the machine with the server and everything is there. the series and all the seasons with all the episodes and everything can be played.

I go through Emby now on the same machine and I only see episodes that are NOT mp4. Ditto for all mp4 files. Roku devices see the files but won’t play them. Android and Emby theatre don’t see them at all.

OK d, video info page in the web app...u mean the emby app? Do you mean this shot I took of my screen? lol

Nope. This shot is of a file that works.

But wait....let me try roku.

Nope never mind

lol....That screenshot is an mkv

And are all of the videos that don't work, in the same folder/library?

The one I showed you is working. The ones that don’t won’t come up to get the info.

While I was otherwise occupied the server updated itself. Rebooted everything. All files are back to normal now except (oddly enough) the Mp4 files in one specific folder.

There only one file in each folder but it is comprised of all the episodes! With? Lol. Do I just hit this Split versions button? How did this happen?

Even that is working great now and I didn't touch that split versions button.

Was this all update hiccups? There was great panic in the house today let me tell you! Canadian winters can make a mom KRAZY!

Thank you for your patience..... Fresh homemade brownies all around

lol....It sounds like the library scan hadn't completed. Sometimes it takes a while. Thanks for the brownies :)

Can you go over an example of what is missing?
