Libraries disorder

Hi.

By default when new library is added it is sorted alphabetically with the existing libraries. But after first renaming, removing or relocating any of existing library the default rule of automatically alphabetical sorting of new library is not respected any more.

for example, if I have 5 libraries:

A B C D E

and rename one of the libraries:

A B C A E

newly created libraries will create like this:

A B C A E A B C

instead of:

A A B B C C A E

I would suggest that all new libraries respect the alphabetical order with existing. On top of that an option for user to reset the existing order to default alphabetical order should be implemented.

But once a library order is set I do not agree with newly added libraries reordering my setup.  I would expect to have to place that new library in the order I want if I don't want it at the end.

yes - i dont want the order of all Libraries changing if i add a new one - that would be a major PIA - as i have a lot of libraries

I agree with you but what about scenario when you have 100 libraries that you want to keep in alphabetical order? Every time any library is renamed or removed you have to manually reorder any new added library. In such scenario only renamed/relocated libraries should be ignored, not everything.

I did not say that.

I never display my libraries alphabetically so I would never want any reordering.

But If someone truly needs over a 100 libraries they have a lot of work to do.

To simplify my request: I have 100+ libraries and I want to keep them in alphabetical order but it is not possible by default so there should be some kind of option to reset that order to alphabetical when needed. (As it is when new user is created: shared libraries are always alphabetically ordered by default, no matter what order the admin has)

Well then you can delete the order set in your options.xml for the user.  I haven't tested but if there is no OrderedViews set then is it not alway alphabetical?

But this basically falls under the same requests for user templates.

So a quick test of adding a library to a user that does not have a OrderedViews set, automatically sorts alphabetically.  Did not test renaming.

So to me this works as intended.  If a user does not set a order, additions are automatically resorted.

It’s ok, I truly don’t care how you personally display your libraries as you also obviously don’t care how and why I do but I hope developers care. I am also pointing to something that I see as logical program inconsistency: the program respects the rule until the point that I intervene by renaming. I just explained what I expect of a program as a user who supports emby and invest time to try to improve it. Not only for myself but with others in mind as well.

I am not talking about that. If I have 100 libraries and I want to put just one library to the front all new created libraries are put at the end (creating new alphabetical order). I would expect that that the program knows to exclude from default alphabetical order only that library that I moved to the front but not everything.

Well i have over a 100 libraries on one of my servers and adding a new library - yes gets added at the end - so you have to move it to where you want it via the UI or modify the config.xml file for the user - i definitely dont want Emby to "guess" where i might want it - as its - for me - not going to be at the beginning

I think you expectation just does not align with me and H2P or the devs - " I would expect that that the program knows to exclude from default alphabetical order...."

The reordering UI is the biggest issue for me. I hate having to manually click "up" or "down" dozens of times instead of being able to click and drag.

So, something like a "sort by name" button on the screen where you can set library order would suffice...?

If you're talking to me, no. I want to be able to actually click and drag the libraries up and down, instead of having to manually click them up or down one spot at a time. Something like this: http://farhadi.ir/projects/html5sortable/

or modify the config.xml file for the user

Thanks for the tip!

This also would be great improvement
