Cinema Mode

Can we talk about Cinema mode and how poor it is please?

Firstly, it used to be that by selecting a chapter for a movie, the launch of trailers could be avoided. Now, (I'm going to say within the last 3 months) it has been changed so that even if you select a chapter you always get trailers. Why? If someone is resuming a movie part way through or starting it part way through then it doesnt seem appropriate that trailers are presented. And apparently until 3 months ago you thought the same. Please put it back as it was.

Secondly, one of the main reasons why the above is important is that the trailers selected by cinema mode are just pants. 9 times out of ten the first trailer i will get (out of the 2 random ones that are supposed to be shown) is the trailer for the movies i'm actually watching. Worse, if its part of a series, lets say Pirates of the Caribbean, both trailers will come from that series.

this seems to suffer from the same randomness / lack of randomness problem that you see when shuffle mode is selected, Emby does not seem to understand "random"

I just tried this in Theater and Shield. It worked as expected, and resumed directly to the movie.

Right you only get cinema intros if you are not starting from the beginning.

So we're supposed to have intros if we start playing from a chapter??? Because for me, it goes directly to the movie, which is what I want.

yep agreed, @@Luke this only happens in web app

If that is happening, it is a bug.  I don't believe that happens in Android TV or Roku but let us know if it does.

Thx.

correct, as I confirmed above after @ noted it was still the same as it always was in android tv I tested there and agree.

But in web client it always gives you trailers. Still waiting for @@Luke to respond with something that isn’t back to front [emoji854] and to confirm the issue with web client

I tested and was not able to reproduce. How exactly are you starting playback?

What about the resume button from the detail screen? How does that compare?

ok, if i resume the movie = no trailers

but that wasnt the point. when i'm working in the web client for testing purposes to avoid trailers i always start from chapter 1 for an unwatched movie. that now doesnt work and is inconsistent with other apps.

and the other point hasnt been mentioned at all. i just tried to play Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides. Should be 2 random trailers.

Trailer 1 was for the 3D version of Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides

Trailer 2 was Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales

Thats just daft. i mean i know you try to pick movie trailers with some similarity to the movie i want to watch as i wouldnt want my 6 year old niece to get a trailer for the human centipede when she wants to watch frozen but come on?

I think he was just trying to determine if that entry was a problem as well as the chapters.  Many times when we ask about other methods, that's what we are doing - not necessarily suggesting it should be that way.

[emoji3] ok but neither of the actual 2 points I raised have been responded to or acknowledged. It was very easy for @@Luke to confirm what I asked but instead he raises something he knows does work. Thankfully this is not a big point but it’s a common way of responding and I’m trying to explain to you that as a user it is very frustrating to be on the end of. [emoji3]

Duly noted.  Thanks.

I was just asking questions for the purposes of collection information. We do our best to help everyone around here but with responses such as that you make yourself extremely unpleasant to work with. Regarding the actual issue so far i have not reproduced but will continue to investigate.

sorry but that’s just rubbish. I was extremely specific in my original post, I defined exactly what the problem was. Although I accept I hadn’t realised that it was specific to the web app. You are telling me that in that time you haven’t had chance to once click on any chapter point in any movie in the web app? 30s is what it would take. But as always your tactics are delay and distraction. We see through this you know. And right back at you about the extreme unpleasantness. You make supporting emby through reporting and issues a chore

However, you aren't acknowledging that not all installations are the same or behave in the same way.  The fact that Luke has not been able to recreate your problem doesn't mean he hasn't tried - it means that there is a difference between your installation and his which has yet to be identified, and suggesting trying other things is part of his attempting to home in on this.
