New Install Wizard Starting after update

Hi,

 

I've just downloaded and run 4.3.0.30 setup.exe.  My current version is 4.2.1.0.

 

After the setup.exe, emby was asking me to go through the new install wizard and wants usernames etc.  Rebooting the windows box takes me back to version 4.2.1.0 and things all work ok.  If I then restart the service, it tries to upgrade to 4.3.0.30 and then forces me to do the Wizard again.

 

This isn't normal.  I usually just shut down the server service, run setup.exe and then it all comes back ok.  The difference with this install is that it tried to install a C++ runtime but failed saying that a version of this software was already installed.  Checking my control panel, I have lots of version of C++ redists on here.

 

I don't want to set everything up again if I can avoid it.

I don't believe so but I set this up a very long time ago and can't really recall what was done.  I have a service 'EmbyServer' when i fire up services.msc and it is set to start automatically, this is always running after a reboot.   In Windows settings, apps, startup I also have an embyserver entry set to start automatically.  The emby settings entry in the settings section 'run server at startup' is unticked.

 

Sorry if this is not clear, I do recall being a bit confused by what I needed to do originally and when it was working....i thought 'If its not broke.....'

Hi.  Make sure you are installing the update under the Windows Admin user (or the same one it was installed previously under).

Yup, this is probably the reason for what happened. The update was installed by a different windows user, and therefore became a fresh install.

No, thats not it.  I only have one user and every update has always been run the same way, right click on setup.exe and select run as admin.

Bring up your 4.2 server and note the program data path shown on the dashboard.

 

Then install the update and note that path.

Thanks ebr, that seems to be pointing at the issue (which you identified straight away).  Old version path is c:\users\administrator\~ and new path is  c:\users\danj\~ ..so I guess I must have done something wrong.  The inbuilt administrator user is disabled though.  Maybe something has gone funny with the windows 10 updates.  I need to work out how to uninstall the emby server version that has been installed under danj and reinstall as administrator.  I'll have a fiddle, thanks for your help.

Hi.  Just pick up the whole "Emby-server" folder from under your admin account and move it to the current user account.  Then, re-install the new version from that account.

My wife has been using her browser to access Emby via the local IP.  About every 20min a new browser tab opens to the Emby Wizard and wants to create users etc.

Everything is set up and has been for quite some time, so not sure what's going on.

 

The server only has one user that's ever logged onto it.

Way back I installed it as a service, and I have "Emby Server Service" and "Ember Server Service" both Stopped

Everything is set up and has been for quite some time, so not sure what's going on.

No, there is only 1 user on that machine.  There has never been another user logged in at any time.

Is your install restarting?  Do you have "Launch the Emby web app in my web browser when Emby Server starts" enabled?  Dashboard-Settings

 

Sounds like cached data is being cleared and you need to manually login to reapply the "Remember me" option.  But if browser cache is being cleared you will alway get login page.

It's possible the main server configuration that holds this value became corrupt and reset, thus causing this. But the libraries and other things are stored separately and that's why they're still available all this time.

 

I would just step through the setup wizard and I'm guessing you'll be fine after that.
