annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 (edited) So doing nothing other than updating my server the other day I now have seemingly random duplicates of SOME movies in my collection but not all. I have checked and the file path is exactly the same for the duplicate. Here's a pic of what it's looking like, this is from inside the star trek collection but I also have duplicates showing up in my regular movies view as well. The duplicates all have no metadata and are different color boxes. https://ibb.co/qgk2Vxp For this example of 'into darkness' the file path is UHD video > Star trek into darkness > Star trek into darkness.mkv Edited November 28, 2019 by annisman
Luke 42078 Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Hi there, have you tried running a library scan?
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 Yes that was the very first thing I did
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 (edited) It seems Emby is having a problem specifically with me having both a Blu Ray and 4K version of the same film, as most of all of the duplicates appear in that scenario. Obviously there wasn't an issue before the latest update. Edited November 28, 2019 by annisman
Luke 42078 Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Have you compared your naming to our multi version file naming guide? https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Movie-naming If you don't follow that then this will be expected behavior.
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 Your guide tells me to place different movie versions in the same folder, HOWEVER in Emby for WMC I would not be able to choose which file I wish to play because Emby for WMC gets no support or something. This is an issue I brought up years ago and the solution for me was to create two separate folders for the HD and the UHD copies of my movies. This arrangement worked perfectly fine for years and now it's screwed up, can you tell me why ?
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 Also, every single duplicate movie is pointing to the UHD path, not the Blu Ray path. if that helps you figure out what's happening, also happy Thanksgiving !
Luke 42078 Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Sorry I don't really know what your were doing before, but it sounds like you were trying to hack around the fact that emby for wmc is a little behind feature wise. But without knowing exactly what you were doing, it's hard for me to offer much guidance. I guess if you need emby for wmc then collections would be one way of doing it.
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/61353-help-with-multi-version-movies/?fromsearch=1 This was a thread I made last year where you guys told me to keep the different versions separate for WMC, check post 7
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 I just don't understand how for over a year it works fine and now it doesn't.
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 I'd love to just use Emby theatre but unless you guys have proper MadVR 4K HDR passthrough support and/or are able to use MPC-BE as an external player I simply cannot.

If you explore the collections feature though, that can help you group them under one collection.
Luke 42078 Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 I'd love to just use Emby theatre but unless you guys have proper MadVR 4K HDR passthrough support and/or are able to use MPC-BE as an external player I simply cannot. Mpv has added this so there's a good chance you'll see this in our next release.
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 I don't mind them bring separate, I mind that an erroneous copy of my movie is being presented in Emby ! Is there anything you can look into regarding that specific problem???
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 It's showing the exact same file path
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 For the image I posted in the first post for example, Star trek into darkness is showing 3 total copies, one is the Blu-ray, one is the UHD, and one is an erroneous copy with no metadata with a colored rectangle for an image that shows the exact same file path as the proper UHD file
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 What I simply want to know is why my library scans are showing two copies of the UHD when there is clearly only one. You guys may have a problem with how I structured my library, you can tell me all about how WMC is outdated software, but I still don't believe that tells me why the Emby server is reading the same file twice, that sounds like a problem that is not WMC related.
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 One more clue, clicking play on the original (correct) UHD file produces playback, clicking play on the erroneous copy produces no playback.
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 Ok so this is bizarre, while I was digging through my server and files I found that one of my drives has renamed itself from F: to H: !!! What on Earth ??? Entered the proper library paths and will now rescan.
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 So either my hard drive renamed itself or Emby changed the path name....which do you think is more likely ?
Luke 42078 Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Emby doesn't change your hard drive configurations.
annisman 13 Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 Okay so this is weird I removed the F library from Emby, and now I look and it is back.
Luke 42078 Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Removed it from where? How did you remove it? Why do you feel that it's back?
