Recording started out with Show Name (YEAR) folder name format, then switched to just Show Name

I switched recently from using Nextpvr to Emby's inbuilt DVR, I decided to set up the DVR to place recording in my TV show Library  and Movie Library, and in my testing notice it created a folder structure on Show Name (YEAR)\Season No.\Show Name S0E0 Title.ts. My existing TV Show Directory was close to this but I didn't have the starting Year in Parantheses, so I updated to this format and also made sure permissions were correct, as I'm on Linux.  This worked correctly for a brief period, with new recordings going into existing folders, then it suddenly switched to new folders with the Main folder just Show Name, with no year. I didn't update to 4.3 yet so it's not due to this, so maybe one of the plugin updates, this is really something that shouldn't ever change, so it leaves me a little concerned. Also for some reason Recordings don't get Thumbnail Image extraction done.

So did the Recording directory structure get changed, and is it likely to change again?

Have you explored your thumbnail settings for the Emby library that the recordings are saved into?

Sorry it is actually the Screen Grabber that's not working, not Thumbnail Image extraction. For my library I have Screen Grabber for episodes, instead of getting a generic show image for each episode, it has a Screen Grabber image, but not for recorded shows.

As far as the Series Year issue, it seems like a very bad idea to depend on any kind of guaranteed constant internet access on any level, and recording, and also allowing changes like this to occur. It seems like this information should be gathered and kept either at the time the guide data is updated, or at the time the the show or series is chosen to be recorded, not every time the show is recorded.

Right now I'm using Emby Guide Data, would I have the same issues if I used Schedules Direct, or is this independent from this?

Also related to this is for example Nancy Drew, which is a new show on CW, but created a 1995 Series Date, from an older show, probably from data from TVDB, but the actual data for the recording is correct for the new show in season, episode and description, and artwork, so I've ignored it.

The other problem I'm having with Emby Guide Data, is rather minor, PBS broadcasts a show it calls BBC World News, this is carried live early in the morning and is actually the BBC news program called GMT in the UK, it is rebroadcast every late evening. Unfortunately the guide thinks it's is all repeats of an episode named 1991-03-11, which is the date that BBC World Television Service was launched. This means that it either records everything twice with some randomish number thrown at the end to differentiate, or I can try to set it to record at a specific time, but it seems to revert every time it gets new guide data and for some reason mark them to not record at any time. Either way it's impossible to tell episode dates easily.

Hi there, the guide data doesn't contain the series year. We're doing the best we can with the information that is available.

So what image are you getting for recordings?

I just get the image poster for the show, I expect them from the scan media task, which is running successfully and which runs every day, if I do a scan media task manually some of them show up but others don't. To get them all to show up I have to manually rescan the library choosing find new or updated files under the Library section.

As far as the series year, I notice in the logs, even before it starts recording it does the TVDB request and if it's not there, there will be a delay to recording until some kind of timeout on the TVDB request. This can delay the start of a recording by almost a minute. It would seems to make sense to make this request maybe when updating the seriestimer.json and storing it there, when there is no time crunch, I mean it's a date that should never change for a Series Recording.

Yes it's a good idea to move that operation to an earlier time. Thanks for the feedback.

Here's what I see lately for my live tv recording directory, all shows used to have one directory each:

drwxr-xr-x 3 emby emby 4096 Nov 19 18:58 'The Flash'
drwxr-xr-x 3 emby emby 4096 Oct 15 18:58 'The Flash (2014)'
drwxr-xr-x 3 emby emby 4096 Dec  2 18:58 'The Great Christmas Light Fight (2013)'
drwxr-xr-x 3 emby emby 4096 Nov 18 21:48 'The Neighborhood'
drwxr-xr-x 3 emby emby 4096 Oct 28 18:58 'The Neighborhood (2018)'
drwxr-xr-x 3 emby emby 4096 Nov 18 09:58 'The Price Is Right'
drwxr-xr-x 3 emby emby 4096 Oct 10 09:58 'The Price Is Right (1956)'
drwxr-xr-x 3 emby emby 4096 Nov 20 09:58 'The Price Is Right (1957)'

Why is that happening? Am (as of today when 1956 was added to) on Emby 4.3.0.30, was on the last stable 4.2 before today. Is there a way to get these to store correctly, and if so, what do I adjust?

I wish there was a way to specify, in the series (timer) or elsewhere, which program this is, i.e., which program id this is to tvdb in order to correct mismatches, obtain the correct thumbnails, and, to keep them all in the same place. So, for any given show name that I am recording, here is the correct tvdb id (which in it's absence would use whatever logic you use). I can correct the thumbnails manually as I have done with Nancy Drew, The Flash, Price is Right, etc., but it doesn't help with future recordings as far as identifying them correctly as apparently, you just use tvdb each time blindly.

That actually wasn't the issue. We have the zap2it id from the guide data (with Emby Guide Data)...tvdb supports lookup via zap2it id. The problem was their api's either just not working or sending back bad data at the time.

So, if you are using the zap2it id, then, that's good. That would mean that even today, it's coming back wrong. I guess it's not fixed yet. So, the "at the time" does not apply then as just today, it added a 1957 price is right, which it wasn't.

Sometimes tvdb may not have the zap2it id for a series.

What's going on with this:

F:\Botched

And!

F:\Botched (2015)

I see this for at least 7 of my series records. It screws with the commercial remove..

Anyone know of a batch file that can search the recorded tv folder for "Botched" and move the containing files and folders in the "Botched (2015)" folder, then delete? Also search out other folders like this?
