BloodyIron 24 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 I don't know if this is a bug, or if this is user error. I have a folder that I dumped a whole bunch of really old shorts from 1937 into, and I don't think the metadata for them is really in any public databases properly. This folder is in an already existing Library, which is intended for Syndications/TV. When I get Emby to scan the library, it only shows two, of the fourteen, videos as available. I can't get it to see the other 12, and I don't know why. i checked the file system permissions and they are all the same, so it isn't an access issue. The videos are in formats Emby supports (MKV), so it's not that. The videos are playable. So... ummm.. help?
Luke 42079 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Hi there, please discuss a specific example. Thanks.
BloodyIron 24 Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 I'm not sure how to be more specific. I have a single folder here, with 14 videos in it, but only 2 show up when I "browse" to it in the Library. All the other 12 don't show up when I'm checking the folder (web interface btw). In the past, I would normally expect it to show all 14, and just have a thumbnail for each video, and just say the full filename. But that's not the case here. I am so confused Hi there, please discuss a specific example. Thanks.
Luke 42079 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 I'm not sure how to be more specific. What videos? File names? folder structures, etc. Thanks.
BloodyIron 24 Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 So, at the root of the library, I just make a single folder. In that folder I dump a whole bunch of MKV files, many with periods instead of spaces, but some with spaces in the name. I'd prefer not to mention specifically the file names in a public setting. The filenames follow common "scene" release style though. Does that help? What videos? File names? folder structures, etc. Thanks.
Luke 42079 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Specifics about the contents of the folder?
BloodyIron 24 Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 I don't understand how the information I've given you doesn't say that. It is only MKV video files. Specifics about the contents of the folder?
Happy2Play 9781 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Like a screenshot. something to show exact content, and structure and naming. Library content type? What do you see in Web client?
BloodyIron 24 Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 1. Library Content Type: TV shows 2. Web Client, I only see two of the fourteen videos 3. /Folder Name Here/example.file.name.1999.mkv I am not comfortable posting a screenshot of such content publicly, sorry. A minimum of a Series folder, then specific Season/Episode naming or Season folder with proper episode naming. https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/TV-naming
BloodyIron 24 Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 Ahh see I was unaware of that. So, this grouping of media is based on the year of release, so far as I am aware they don't constitute a "Season" in the same sense as we see in modern releases. The content was made/released/broadcasted in 1937, so... what do you recommend I do then? The name of the folder they are in is named after the company behind who made it. TV requires structure. Without know what you are seeing it is impossible to truly say. But something like how Looney Tunes is done.
BloodyIron 24 Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 So, initially I put the episodes in a folder called "Year 1937", should I instead call it "Season 1937"? When I tried it with "Year 1937" it again only saw two videos. Also, The "Looney Tunes (1929)" example isn't quite what I'm going for. I'm hoping to do... \Looney Tunes\ \Looney Tunes\Season 1937 \Looney Tunes\Season 1938 Of that kind of structure. Would... that work? Also, thanks a tonne for all your help here you two Without know what you are seeing it is impossible to truly say. But something like how Looney Tunes is done.
BloodyIron 24 Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 Okay so I made that "Season 1937" folder and moved the 14 videos into it, re-scanned library. I still only see two videos in the "Season 1937" Season in the web interface. I've taken a look at the meta data in the files, and I don't yet see a pattern as to why only two are being picked up and displayed by Emby.

BloodyIron 24 Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 Tried it, and same result, only two videos show up in the "Season" No you don't need the year in the series folder name, but that should work.
Happy2Play 9781 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Without specifics it is impossible to say. Are the other actually being multiversioned?
BloodyIron 24 Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 Are the other what? And I don't know what you mean by "multiversioned". Other TV Series are properly displaying their Seasons. This is not a new setup of Emby, I've had this going for a bunch of years now, so I hope that answers your question. And I'd love to give you more specifics, but I'm not sure what, and certain specifics I can provide privately (I've been trying to hint at this several times now btw). Without specifics it is impossible to say. Are the other actually being multiversioned?
pwhodges 2012 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 3. /Folder Name Here/example.file.name.1999.mkv Do you actually put dots within the episode name (as opposed to between different elements of the file name)? I could imagine that interfering with recognition.
Happy2Play 9781 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 The issue is do the the year 1937 in the file names, they were all multi-versioned as S19E37.
jimyt666 0 Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 Hey I was having the same exact problem as you. Had a show with season 1 and the first episode would appear but none of the rest, all in mkv format. i went into my metadata manager setting in emby and checked every episode and episode 2's metadata was messed up was listed at season 0 and episode 0. once i fixed episode 2 the rest showed up now theyre all working correctly. not sure why bu that one episode was somehow stopping emby from retrieving the rest of the data. hope this works for you.
Luke 42079 Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 Hi @@jimyt666 what was your folder structure and file names? Did you compare your file names with our TV naming guidelines in our wiki?
