Very Frustrated with Emby Support or Lack thereof

Having problems connecting outside my network to Emby server. I moved my emby server to another computer which is not on the vpn and I cannot connect from outside my Wan. I can't find any support for this product. Have I bought a pig in a poke? I hope not as I bought a lifetime license.

Is there anyone out here that can help me please. I am running on Windows 10 Pro computer from my office at home. I have it configured correctly I believe. I can connect when I turn my wifi on with my android phone but can't connect when I turn the wifi off the phone. Is there something I am doing wrong.

Also, where is the tech support for this product? Are there any tech support people on here at all or is there a phone number or email to contact someone.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

You can connect to Emby from outside of your local area network with Emby Connect or via your computer's IP address and Emby's port (default is 8096) which is listed at the top of the Emby Dashboard

Assuming your ports are open.

Tried those two suggestions above, still cant connect. I tried to use Emby Connect, but it will not let me connect. Don't mean to be ugly, but isn't there any support for this product other than this forum area?

Possible causes could be router setting or firewall. Are you connecting via IP or a hostname?

Primary support is done via the forum.

Where are you trying to connect to your WAN:port address from?  What do you get when you enter your WAN:port address?

Are you behind cgNAT? That was my issue, and I had to contact my ISP to get a dedicated IP assigned.

I wouldn't think so, if the port is open.

By the way, port 8096 is open.

I don't see how that changes anything? I had every detail setup according to the connection tutorial thing, only thing being that when I checked my IP in router it didn't match the outbound one due to some kind of cgNAT. Granted I'm not great with network issues, but as soon as I got a dedicated IP and set it up on my laptop it all worked perfectly after that when connecting from outside of the network.

EDIT: In other words my port was open, but I couldn't connect to it. I'm not sure if he means he ran a test on his port from outside of the network or not. I didn't even know that was a thing before fixing this.

Have you allowed remote connection from the server. This was my issue when I couldn't connect.

From your first message I cannot deduce if you have tried accessing that PC in general from outside your own network so:

I would suggest simply trying to see if you can access the PC in general (port forward remote connect or another program and try that connection) from outside your own network.
If you can, router/firewall line for emby should be checked or the emby settings themselves. If you cannot access, then you would need to find out why you cannot access your server/PC at all.

To test for cgNAT - simply compare your internet IP (using whatsmyIP etc) to the WAN IP listed on your Router.  if they are NOT the same, then you are on cgNAT and as @@Wondertje has said - incoming internet requests will never work.  The only option here is to ask your ISP for a proper internet facing IP.  If they ARE the same, then I suspect it's a Router or Windows firewall issue/port forward, or WAN config in Emby, again as others have said.

We are happy to help - but strictly speaking - it is your WAN networking that is likely the issue (as you have confirmed Emby works on your local network) so please consider that there is only so much support we can give in this area.

Try

www.Canyouseeme.org

and www.whatsmyip.org

Check IP addresses at each site and compare to your settings.

Also, check your firewall settings.  As a test, shut down the firewall and test.

Well, that is some awesome support! Though I personally find it bothersome since I have to be home to let the technician in :P

Or he really doesn't know how this works and needs the help. What do you gain from being rude?

I wanted to thank everyone for their help. I have finally fixed the problem with my Emby server. It was a port forwarding problem. I apologize for acting like an "ass" on this forum. Thanks again for everyone's suggestions and assistance.
