Branding with direct play

I have a poor picture quality with Emby clients when the movie is played via direct play.

Emby server: 4.2.1

iPad - Emby Version: 1.8.6

 

I have the same problem on my Apple TV.

 

 

When the movie is transcoded, e.g. in the web browser, everything looks good.

Color space seems to be BT.2020 according to file info, so it appears it could be HDR content. Emby doesn’t currently do any tone mapping (AFAIK) so colors will be washed out, as you have seen. Edited November 12, 2019 by samuelqwe

I've tested a bit, the problem occurs only with 4K movies. I do not know if all these are HDR movies.

Ok, we're going to be updating our embedded mpv build soon which will bring a number of 4K & HDR rendering improvements. Let's re-evaluate then. Thanks.

Yes, it's a big problem with me too. 

Just switched from Plex to Emby, everything is great but 4K rendering...
