Using Existing Kodi NFO Data with Emby Server on Windows 10

Hi,

I have an extensive library of local media which I'm currently using with Kodi. I would very much like to use EmbyCon mainly for when I'm away from home, but wanted to know if there is a setting somewhere on the Emby Server that will only use my existing NFO data and will not write any new or additional data to these files?

I did setup a test library yesterday on Emby, using 10-15 movies and maybe about 10 Tv shows copied over to completely new directories from my current Kodi library paths. After scanning the libraries and getting everything working with EmbyCon, I noticed that a lot of the data on my existing NFO files have been changed once they have been added to the Emby server.

Is there a way I can prevent this behaviour ever happening and that Emby will only ever use the data on the original NFO file on a read only basis and not write any new data to these files?

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Cheers

Just disable every online metadata scraper and writing of nfo files in your library settings. Maybe you have to enable "Show advanced settings" in your library to see all options.

Thanks very much for the feedback.

Just checked again for each library and the only item I have enabled is a 'Tick' under Metadata Savers for NFO. Should I disable this option as well?

Under the Metadata heading I have only enabled language and country. Under the Advanced heading, I've just used the 'Use file creation date' for the Date Added Behaviour for new content. On closer inspection, it seems that most of the original data is still there on the few NFO's I've now compared, but the layout has changed completely. That's probably why I initially thought 'Alot' of data had changed or was missing. There are some minor differences with plot outline and tagline, so not sure how that is occurring if I don't have any scrappers enabled?

With saving to nfo enabled Emby is still writing play count, date added to your library, lock status and some other Emby specific tags to your files. That's why your files are "reformated". Just disable writing and you are safe.

Again, thanks very much for the info.

Will disable writing and do a quick test again. Soz, if I'm sounding a little paranoid, but I ruined all my artwork a few months ago in Kodi where every image became very pixelated. Very annoying, particularly as I had created many posters and landscape images from scratch and didn't keep the original PS files. This was closely followed by a change being made to Kodi's Music scraper and ruining most of the metadata on my NFO files.....So yeah, I'm little cautious now! ;)

I recall you can also disable the setting to store meta data with your media files, because that also applies to images.

Yeah, pretty sure I disabled all the artwork stuff as well. Quite happy just using local artwork and NFO data.

I removed the libraries and then re-added them with the original NFO files and the write option disabled. Everything seems to be working perfectly with the exception of maybe one oddity. The genre labels are not appearing in the order they are on the NFO file. I generally make a point of ensuring all my genres are in alphabetical order on the NFO file, but every single item is showing them incorrectly. Certainly not a huge deal, but was quite curious as to what might be the cause of that happening?

Anyway, I can enjoy watching 4K movies in the bedroom at last. Plex seemed to have problems playing them across my network, but no problems with Emby so far. Happy Days!  :)
