rbronco21 11 Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 I've been using native for Kodi and play files through smb which I like because I am using path substitutions on some of my clients and not on others. Now I have to account for movies with multiple formats so I've switched to addon. Does Emby for Kodi support Direct Play, and does that mean it will allow me to select the desired format and then play the file using smb? I keep seeing Direct Play in the forums, but I can't see any way to turn it on. Is it a client or server option?
Luke 42077 Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 Hi there, it does support direct play, but I'm not sure how multi-version affects things. @@horstepipe, do you know?
horstepipe 422 Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 I‘m having no issues with direct playing my multi version movies. But my files are remote and I‘m using addon mode. Can’t say anything about native mode, sorry.
rbronco21 11 Posted November 10, 2019 Author Posted November 10, 2019 I don't even see options for it. Does it mean it will use the web server to select between multiple versions, then play back from smb, or does it still use an http stream?
horstepipe 422 Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 You can select between the methods on Emby for Kodi install wizard. Reset your local database and it will ask you again. Should work fine via smb if you choose native mode afaik. Just try it out and we will see.
rbronco21 11 Posted November 10, 2019 Author Posted November 10, 2019 Native worked great for smb. Addon works great for multi version movies. I'm looking for the best of both worlds, multi version movies and smb playback. Here are the settings I have that I think are relevant in the Kodi addon. I'm not sure if anything on the server would affect it. Playback mode: Add-on Enable simple play: on Force HTTP playback: off
