Unable to resume film or start from a specific chapter

I just watched the first three quarters of a football game, had to leave for a bit, came back, tried to resume it, and it started over. But I have chapter markers at each quarter, so that's fine, I can pick the '4th Quarter' chapter and away we go...but nope, that starts from the beginning too.

Resume has been working fine previously.

What kind of file is it?

crusher11

It's an mkv file.

Where did this file come from?

crusher11

Why? What difference does any of this make?

Posted

Is it only happening on this one file?

crusher11

Seems like it.

The only thing I can think of is that after I watched the first three quarters and stopped it, I edited the chapters before resuming it.

Posted

What, exactly, do you mean by you "edited the chapters"?

Did you do a full refresh on the item after doing that?

Using MKVToolnix, I edited the chapter points in the MKV file. I rescanned the library after.

Try a refresh on that item so that it can be re-probed.

Well, the new chapter points do display correctly, so I figured that was fine. And I tested it in the Web and Android Mobile apps and it works completely fine there too. I can select a chapter and have it skip there, and I can resume playback if I exit partway through. It's only the LG TV app that doesn't seem to like it.

Is it direct playing?

crusher11

It is in the web and Android mobile apps. Not sure about the LG app, I'll have to check.

It's direct playing in the LG app as well.

Ok you may want to reencode this one particular file.

Re-encode?

So your solution is for me to drop the quality of the file just because one of your apps isn't reading it correctly?

Did you try this?

If it's direct playing, then what you really mean to say is that the LG video player is having difficulty with the file. So either you can continue to be frustrated with it, or you can try to remux it which often will clean up any issues within the file.

Tried another file with the same encoding etc. Same problem.

Found another one. Not sure how much they have in common encoding-wise, to be perfectly honest. I think I've attached the correct log. Issue occurred trying to resume/chapter select AFL s1992e2003. I tried a few other episodes of things that weren't ripped from DVDs, thinking it might be any non-DVD material, but they all worked fine. Seems to just be these football games.

Looks like it direct played each time. Can you provide a sample video for testing? Thanks.

I'm not sure how to cut one without re-encoding, which would obviously defeat the purpose.

Is there an entire one small enough to provide?

No. They're all multiple GB.
