jayTcold 8 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Hi Everyone, First off, the MB3 suite is a huge part of my life, ya'll are doing an awesome job and it's greatly appreciated. I'm posting this issue within the Server forum due to the fact that the problem is resident all of my clients (Web client, MB Theater, Windows 8 app). Within all of my clients, Media Browser only shows a total of four Album Artists, and has shown the exact same four Album Artists since I installed MB3 Server over a year ago; they've never changed. Interestingly enough, MB does show all of the metadata for the everything within the Artists view. I can't find any common difference within the metadata within the four Album Artists that MB3 does show and the metadata of the hundreds of Album Artists that does not show. All of the MusicBrainz ID's look good. So, anything that I can do to force Media Browser server to begin displaying Album Artists? Here are fresh MB3 Server logs, generated right after a server restart and the Scan Media Library and Refresh People tasks: http://1drv.ms/1kdDQRu Thanks much, J
jayTcold 8 Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 Thanks Luke. For my music, my structure looks like this: M:\OneDrive\SkyDrive-Music\Best Coast - Crazy For You\ M:\OneDrive\SkyDrive-Music\Best Coast - Fade Away\ M:\OneDrive\SkyDrive-Music\Best Coast - Sun Was High (So Was I)\ M:\OneDrive\SkyDrive-Music\Best Coast - When I'm You\ and so forth... So, you're saying that in order to use the Album Artists view correctly, I'd need change my structure to look like this: M:\OneDrive\SkyDrive-Music\Best Coast\Crazy For You M:\OneDrive\SkyDrive-Music\Best Coast\Fade Away M:\OneDrive\SkyDrive-Music\Best Coast\Sun Was High M:\OneDrive\SkyDrive-Music\When I'm With You
Beardyname 198 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 (edited) Thanks Luke. For my music, my structure looks like this: and so forth... So, you're saying that in order to use the Album Artists view correctly, I'd need change my structure to look like this: M:\OneDrive\SkyDrive-Music\Best Coast\Crazy For You If the artist is called "Best Coast" then I would think so, try editing one or two to the format Luke mentioned. And see if it works Edited June 9, 2014 by Beardyname 1
Solution Luke 42078 Posted June 9, 2014 Solution Posted June 9, 2014 album artists depends on the folder structure, which is currently pretty strict. \music\artists\albums 2
seanbuff 1316 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 @@Luke, is there a planned change to this to utilize metadata instead in future? In the same way that we are told to keep our 'Movies' folder structure fairly generic and let the power of metadata do the sorting for us, will it eventually be the same for 'Music' aswell? We are encouraged to not organize our Movie folders like: \\SERVER\Movies\Action\Die Hard\ or ...\Comedy\48 Hours\ as Movies can generally be part of multiple genre's ...the same can be said for Music Artists which could contain multiple artists. 1
seanbuff 1316 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 @@Luke - any chance an architectural change to Music folders is being considered for the next public server release?
jayTcold 8 Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 Thanks Luke, Beardyname and seanbuff. I've finally gotten around to re-organizing my Music's folder structure. Everything looks great across the MB3 clients that I use (web, Windows Phone, Windows 8). All of my music resides in a folder on my server that is synced to my OneDrive and to my Surface. So, with the re-organization, the OneDrive web view looks pretty sweet also:
