Hi all I've been scouring the web and forums for an answer and this may just not work as of yet, while watching any of my mkv files , only format I have , through any web browser , chrome , ie, firefox on win 8.1 , no setting changes I make will allow me to hear 5.1 audio, only comes out in stereo. I notice in log output it is stating the video is being transcoded to mp4 or webm I believe but it also states its down mixing to stereo audio output. All this is via wan ip from within server lan , or by accessing localhost., via the server pc itself. Any tweaks to force that 5.1 surround as metadata info within MB server sees 5.1.

I thought browsers only supported MP3, OGG, WAV and possible AAC sound directly. DTS, TrueHD, etc... will most likely be transcoded to stereo. Same as for mobile devices. If you use a client like Media Browser Classic or Media Browser Theater does the sound come out appropriately?

For browsers you can get a sudo 5.1 or 7.1 surround but as Luke said browsers do not currently support surround.

I use Razer Surround when I play video files through a browser so that it at least comes from all the speakers. Its not perfect but it works.

Wayne is correct. No browse that I know of supports surround audio
