ryu4000 0 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 I'm wondering how i set it up just back up my disc it came out as bdmv i know i can convert to mkv but that doesn't allow the dolby vision to follow so i like to keep the bdmv. I have try transfering the file over like so Skyfall Bdmv certificate But emby won't play it back at all.
ebr 16185 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Hi. Why do you think DolbyVision will be lost by converting to mkv? You should be able to make an exact copy of the video into a streaming friendly container.
ryu4000 0 Posted October 29, 2019 Author Posted October 29, 2019 MKV doesn't support it what i hear only bdmv and mp4 supports it and the issue with mp4 your stuck with dolby digital instead of atmos or dts-x
Guest asrequested Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Yeah, DV is difficult to work with. TS should also support it. They are layered. And even if you get it in a container that supports it, very few apps/players do.
ebr 16185 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 I guess the important question is what will be your target playback app/platform because very few will support BDMV as well.
ryu4000 0 Posted October 29, 2019 Author Posted October 29, 2019 Using emby through the new shield tv.
ebr 16185 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Using emby through the new shield tv. That will not allow you to directly play your BDMV folders and keep Dolby Vision anyway. You will need to convert to a streaming-friendly format (mp4, mkv).

ebr 16185 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Emby Theater Desktop and Kodi (but I'm not positive if on the Android platform). I highly suggest moving away from that format though as support for it will only continue to dwindle.
Guest asrequested Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Theater/mpv will tone map DV. I don't know how Kodi handles it.
ryu4000 0 Posted October 29, 2019 Author Posted October 29, 2019 I try emby theater it tells me it can't playback
Guest asrequested Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 I try emby theater it tells me it can't playback Because of the type, it needs direct access, and the correct folder structure.
Guest asrequested Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 I've never tested that. That might be interesting to experiment with.
ryu4000 0 Posted October 30, 2019 Author Posted October 30, 2019 Because of the type, it needs direct access, and the correct folder structure. Ok thanks what is the correct way to do it? Cause i try movie/skyfall/bdmv

Luke 42080 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Yes theater will need direct access to the bdmv folders for it to work.
ryu4000 0 Posted October 31, 2019 Author Posted October 31, 2019 Still can't figure it out try another movie just made a test folder this is how it's setup Test/Moana/bdmv Ain't that the way it's suppose to be setup and in the bdmv folder it has backup bandjo etc.... everything a bdmv suppose to have
ebr 16185 Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Hi. Does Theater have direct access to that file location using the exact same path? If not, you will have to setup a share and the "Optional Network Path" in the library setup. Again, I highly suggest moving away from this format.
One2Go 120 Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Just my experience with the BDMV folder structure. I do run external program Power DVD to play back BDMV folders but in doing so I noticed that it wants to see a specific structure even if they are blank directories. Some of the on-line sources do not include empty directories so this is the required BD structure as they are appearing on the Blu-ray disc: \BDMV \CERTIFICATE \BDMV\AUXDATA \BDMV\BACKUP \BDMV\BDJO \BDMV\CLIPINF \BDMV\JAR \BDMV\META \BDMV\PLAYLIST \BDMV\STREAM \BDMV\BACKUP\BDJO \BDMV\BACKUP\CLIPINF \BDMV\BACKUP\JAR \BDMV\BACKUP\PLAYLIST \CERTIFICATE\BACKUP As optical media is decreasing eventually their has to come the point to decide what to do with the discs. I only keep certain discs in its original format and hope that PDVD 17 will work for me for the foreseeable future.
