Bigmack3000 107 Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 I didn't see a sub-forum for organization so I'm posting the question here. Any suggestions on how people go about this? Do you give every short film it's own folder so they show up individually like any other film? Or do you put all of the shorts as "extras" in one folder with no main feature? Examples being "Hollywood at War" or "Disney Short Film Collection"
Happy2Play 9785 Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 Depends on how you want to watch them. As extras you would only know they exist by entering their parent item. And if they were their own item they would appear in the library like everything else. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/76052-how-should-i-organize-the-minions-shorts-mini-movies/ 2
pwhodges 2014 Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 Isn't this exactly what Collections are for? Just set up the films individually first and then combine them into a Collection.
Bigmack3000 107 Posted October 29, 2019 Author Posted October 29, 2019 This might lead into another question then. Does "Movies" always display everything, and then Collections is where it will show it grouped together? For example, If I wanted to put all Criterion films together, I'd select them all for the same collection? Or is that a better use of Folders?
crusher11 1102 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 I have a separate "shorts" library and have them all listed individually in there.

You can specify that films in collections are not shown separately as well, which means that you can have other films and collections in the same library. You can also disable the separate collections tab to remove redundancy.
skidmarks 199 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 (edited) I created a tv show in my tv library called "Short Films Collection". Put all the movie shorts in the Season 1 folder. Added S01E## - Short Film Name Added some cover art and backdrops Can edit the metadata for each episode if needed. Lock the metadata so it is not changed with library scans. Done... All the shorts are now in a easy to find location. Without having to manually create a collection. Edited October 29, 2019 by skidmarks
crusher11 1102 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Why on earth would you do that when you could just set up a library like I did and have all the metadata sort itself out automatically?
skidmarks 199 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Think it was due to the short films not getting or getting the wrong metadata... I ran into a mess with meta wrongly identifying them. Haven't messed with this folder in a LONG time. Have the things locked down. Maybe its time to see if the scrappers will identify the shorts correctly?
