peterwilcox88@hotmail.com 0 Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 I have installed Emby server on a new PC. Windows 10 all shiny and new and up to date. I have a subscription and Emby Premiere (which might be one and the same?). I still cannot connect remotely. Also my password keeps on failing, I keep having to reset it. Advice please? Should I uninstall and start from scratch? Thanks
Luke 42083 Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 I still cannot connect remotely. Hi there, what happens when you try?
peterwilcox88@hotmail.com 0 Posted October 25, 2019 Author Posted October 25, 2019 A message saying no connection possible, check that the server is running.
arche 177 Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 I would start here https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Connectivity Double check that you've open the proper ports and that you can be seen from the outside (canyouseeme.org).
Luke 42083 Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Yes please try the steps listed in that guide and let us know which ones succeed and which ones do not. Thanks.
Richard Branches 330 Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 (edited) If your modem/router has UPnP active and you have Windows to obtain an IP address automatically, you don't need to do additional steps for this, just go to canyouseeme.org and check for port 8096, if you get a green "success" it means the port is open, otherwise, if you are using a fixed IP like 192.168.1.10 then you must open a TCP port manually inside your modem/router for that IP even if UPnP is active. peterwilcox88@hotmail.com 0 Posted October 28, 2019 Author Posted October 28, 2019 Hi, Thanks for the suggestions. I've just moved home so my being able to focus on this matter is limited. BTW It didn't work before the move, nothing changed there. My server device is in my workshop directly connected to the router. It is fully independent. If I have enough time I will try canyouseeme.org today. That is a very helpful suggestion. Thank you. So far, I log into Emby Connect, that then returns me to my server choice. I click on my server and just get 'connection failure' after a few seconds. I know the device is active. Thank you all again.
peterwilcox88@hotmail.com 0 Posted October 28, 2019 Author Posted October 28, 2019 Hi again, I'm at work and tried canyouseeme.org. No it can't. I've been around computers for about 30 odd years, but no in depth knowledge. I'm aware of port forwarding, but unsure how to do it. I tried just now to open my router up altogether (I judged the temporary exposure to be ok) Still nothing. When I try to open a specific port my router requires me to identify a 'game' or whatever first. Since Emby is not mentioned in the list, I have no idea what it would be.

peterwilcox88@hotmail.com 0 Posted October 28, 2019 Author Posted October 28, 2019 It is a Plusnet Hub one, I think by Sagemcom? It is ADSL
Richard Branches 330 Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 (edited) The best step is to contact your ISP and ask them to open a TCP 8096 port forwarded to any local IP you want to use like 192.168.1.20 that should work, make sure your internet connection is set as private inside Windows 10 otherwise it won't work either, go to settings -> network and make sure it says "private network" below the internet connection you're using. arche 177 Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 (edited) First make sure you have the "Allow remote connections to this Emby Server" enabled under network settings in the admin dashboard. If that is in fact enabled, try the following steps from the manual from your router. 1. Log in to the Hub Manager. 2. Click Advanced Settings at the top of the Hub Manager page and select Firewall. 3. Now click Manage games and applications, which you'll find at the bottom of the page. 4. You'll now see the User Defined Games & Applications screen - click Add new game or application. 5. On this screen you'll see a list of profiles for any games or applications that you've added previously. If you ever need to edit or remove a profile, you can do that here. 6. Enter the details for your new game or application (if you know the details are similar to an existing profile, you can copy the rules and update or add more details yourself). 7. When you're done, press Apply. To start using your new profile, follow the instructions above to set up port forwarding manually, your new profile will be available in the drop down list. You do have to go into advanced settings of your router to define a different application that is not listed. Through these steps, make sure you put in your port number for Emby (8096) and local (internal) ip of your server. After doing this, then see if you can connect to your emby server.
