Pirlo1966 22 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Had to reinstall emby server due to a server hardware crash. I notice when clicking on an actor image it shows all other movies in the library where the actor is part of the cast but descriptions (biography) is not shown. Is there a kind of delay or limit in downloading actor metadata? Will it show up after a while?
Luke 42078 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Hi there, does the actor have a MovieDb id assigned? And if so, did you check to see if there is a description on MovieDb?
d00zah 149 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 There's a scheduled task called 'Refresh People' which runs every 24 hrs (IIRC) by default, but you can try running it manually. The missing data will likely fill in over time. It's too late now, but if you're like me & manually add images & modify descriptions, etc.., you MAY want to install & configure the 'People Backup and Restore' plug-in from the catalog so you can restore from back-up next time you rebuild?
Pirlo1966 22 Posted October 24, 2019 Author Posted October 24, 2019 (edited) Hi there, does the actor have a MovieDb id assigned? And if so, did you check to see if there is a description on MovieDb? Yes, all actors, even the famous ones do not get a biography. Have been looking around in emby server but I cannot find a setting to download or refresh actor metadata. Renew metadata for a single actor nor the scheduled task 'refresh people' doesn't seem to lead to actor descriptions. Perhaps there is daily/weekly limit imposed by the metadata provider? I really don't see how that would be possible to get everything except the overview. If you clicked that tmdb link there is a overview on their site correct? As a new install I would expect all actor to be now pointing to /library instead of /metadata/people so they would be new entries. Is this an example of a new entry or have you used the plugin to restore existing people? Not really sure what the Refresh People task actually does these days.. When you look at the total number of people it is realistically a one time get when you could be talking hundreds of thousands of actors to get depending on ones media collection size. Can you post a server log for when you did a refresh all on a person. Edited October 24, 2019 by Happy2Play
Pirlo1966 22 Posted October 24, 2019 Author Posted October 24, 2019 When clicking the tmdb link there is an overview for Denzel W. My new install indeed points to /library for actors. I didn't restore existing people. Am not sure how to obtain the server log from my embyserver install on a synology NAS. I used SCP to go to the root of my NAS but it seems that no longer works.
Solution pünktchen 1409 Posted October 24, 2019 Solution Posted October 24, 2019 Also what is your prefered meta data language setting? I mean the general setting, not the one you can set per library. 2

You can use the save as trick in the UI, go to Dashboard-Logs and right click on the log and "Save link as"
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 (edited) @@Luke I vaguely remember asking this but is there a fallback for language for People? Would need logs to verify, you can see no overview in nl vs overview in en. Do to no current translation on TMDB. https://api.themoviedb.org/3/person/5292?api_key=f6bd687ffa63cd282b6ff2c6877f2669&append_to_response=credits,images,external_ids&language=nl https://api.themoviedb.org/3/person/5292?api_key=f6bd687ffa63cd282b6ff2c6877f2669&append_to_response=credits,images,external_ids&language=en Edited October 24, 2019 by Happy2Play 1
Pirlo1966 22 Posted October 24, 2019 Author Posted October 24, 2019 Also what is your prefered meta data language setting? I mean the general setting, not the one you can set per library. That's it! Thank you so much. General metadata setting was set to Dutch. And there are almost no dutch actor overviews available. Changed it to English and overviews do appear now. There should be a fallback to a 2nd language like english if preferd language is not available.

Unless something is broke it should be, but People and Media metadata may be slightly different. Hi, yes this is something we should add. Currently the fallback is preset to english internally. Thanks. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/67591-fallback-language-themoviedb/
Luke 42078 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I think it's been added for the next release. thanks.
