EmbyCon - Multi-part / split movies, can only view first part.

I saw a post made almost a year ago about this vital missing feature:

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/55865-embycon-problem-with-movie-divided-into-2-parts/

It still hasn't been implemented.

And I can't just join the parts into 1 file as they come from different encodings.
For instance, some of the old epics that last 5-6 hours are spread over 2 or 3 blu-ray discs and can't be joined.

Can we expect to see this feature in an update?

I have never said it would be.

The main problem with this from memory was partially played items, I could not work out how to resume them as they were in two different files and added to a playlist but the total duration was used so working out where to play to was problematic and instead of implementing a half-arse approach I dropped it as the user would receive a much better experience if they just joined the dam files together or get a new copy that was one single file.

This is very true. We haven't even implemented split movie playback in all Emby apps yet.

It won't auto play the additional part, but you could use the multiversion naming scheme to be able to play either part.

That is a good suggestion for a work around, add the parts as alternative version and then EmbyCon will prompt you when you play back for which part you want to play.

It does not solve the resume issue for partially played items but it will at least let you play the part you want.

Why not just treat multi-part videos the same way it treats multiple versions? So when selecting to play a multi-part video you should get a prompt with all the different parts.

It would mean the user would return to the menu after each part finishes rather than playing them in sequence automatically, but surely it's a lot better than what's currently implemented.

That is exactly what Happy2Play suggested.

You just need to name then correctly and they will be treated like that now.

Not quite, I'm suggesting I shouldn't have to change my naming system, EmbyCon should simply interpret multi-part videos as separate versions.

It's a subtle difference and would be preferable to current implementation. There shouldn't be any disagreement here.

Its an emby server thing, you will have to go ask in the server forum.
