crusher11 1101 Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 I had a bunch of TV I was ripping, and after I was done shifted it all to a networked drive. All the episode background images got deleted, as they're not stored with the media like all other images are. Can this be fixed?

crusher11 1101 Posted October 14, 2019 Author Posted October 14, 2019 They're custom backdrops, they're not from a metadata provider. I don't think any metadata providers even do episode backdrops.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 When media is moved the itemid in the database is deleted along with all the itemid folders in /library/xx/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, because they no longer exist in that location. And the item gets a new id and /library/xx/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx folders when it is re-imported from its new location. There is currently no way to move media and maintain custom metadata and image if you do not same them with your media. Unless you are a database guru and do all the path edits in the database manually offline when you decide to move media around.

I do save images, and nfo files, with my media though. However, for some reason this doesn't work with TV episode backdrops, they're saved in the server folder regardless of the media saving settings. Allowing episode backdrops to save with media, as all other images do, would solve my problem.

I really hate the structure, it would be nice if a copy would be created in the actual media folders. Emby runs on a SSD drive but the media folders are located on a HDD drive. But you have to ensure you have database backups in order to maintain the /metadata information. Without the database that contains the same itemids that /metadata/library folder gets nuked so you loose all of your images because a new database means new itemids.

Let's say I have 200 albums, 100 are well organized with folder.jpg, backdrop.jpg, logo.png already existing....Emby scans them and creates an album.nfo file..good so far... but the next 100 do not have any existing images, so Emby has to download them and it keeps them inside the /library/xx/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx structure which only exist on the SSD drive. A simple export feature to the HDD would be great. It already creates the album.nfo and maybe the folder.jpg so why not also create the backdrops and logos on the hdd drive as well. Backups would be a breeze. If Emby gets borked in the future I can simply re-install it and re-import everything OFFLINE.

Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 You have the ability to create these images but to me it is something that is really undocumented/unsupported as episodes only have a thumb image. Normally all brackdrops come from a Series level. There is no approved episode level backdrop naming scheme. So currently there is no way to put a backdrop.jpg with a episode. So to me this would be a feature request.

It makes it much easier to distinguish these games at a glance than it would be if they all just had the series background.

I don't think this have ever been brought up before, so you would need to put in a feature request to try and get to work the way you want it to. With the image editor being generic I would expect things like this exist across the board since you can upload any type image anywhere. Whether it works or not and whether Emby uses it properly or not is another story.

Not very but have you tested appending a episode with -backdrop.jpg, it does not work. So that unsupported scheme would need added to the code.

Technically there has never been support for what you are doing. Just because it worked does not mean it is supported. But you are the first user to ever bring it up here that I am aware of. The majority will never apply episode level backdrops as it is a manual process. So episodes by default use Series backdrops as that is pretty much the standard and are available from providers. No one is saying it can't or won't be added though.

But they don't actually show an example in single episode files, only episode folder structure.
