Newbie: Transcoding Fails

Hi

Attempting to set up MediaBrowser Server to manage media as backend for MediaPortal / ArgusTV combo.

Have installed it on Windows7 and it works ok through MediaPortal plugin.

However, when I attempt to play content via iOS app or in browser (Safari or Firefox on OSX 10.9.2), where transcoding would be in operation, playback fails.

The video content appears to load and a single frame appears but then freezes. On iOS. the playback time display progresses as expected and if I check CPU utilization on the server, it's high, indicating that transcoding is taking place.

Log files attached.

I had switched on the 'enable debug logging' opting in config.

The transcode log is truncated by me as it kept filling even after I'd stopped playback (is this an additional / separate bug?). It was up to > 10,000 KB.

Help appreciated. This looks like great software and I'd love to get it working to really test.

Many thanks

Peter

Re-started mediabrowser server to apply update - I'm now on 3.0.5271.29451

It's better but not usable.

On a browser (Chrome on Windows 8), it now actually plays (as opposed to ythe previous still screen) but I only get smooth playback for a couple of seconds until it freezes for a few seconds and then goes again. This is a wired connection.

On iOS app (ipad 2), I get a 1 second snippet of content then a picture freeze. Timer continues to run and I hear scratchy / garbled audio blips occasionally.Wireless connection.

In both cases, my server is showing ~80% cpu utilisation.

Thanks

Peter

Can you post some new logs with this new release? Supplying media info from the web client would also be useful. thanks.

Logs attached. Runaway transcoding log filling seems to have ceased with this latest update.

Adjusting quality upwards in the web player has a detrimental affect on the smoothness of playback.

Ok, unfortunately there's nothing obvious there. can you reproduce this on any smaller files, and if so, perhaps upload one to dropbox for me? i really would need to test it myself in order to get to the bottom of it.

I tried an SD file with the same results. It's getting late here now so will do more testing tomorrow and upload file if possible.

Solved!

I'd been running MediaBrowser3 in my TVServer VM (Xen on unRAID).

When I attempted to play an audio file, I got the same choppy playback. This reminded me of a similar problem I had with Logitech Media Server on the same system. Putting Two & Two together, I figured there must be some issue with the VM, likely network related.

I did a quick search for updated GPLPV drivers and found fresher ones than I'd been using here;

Now I have perfect playback. Yay!

Only outstanding question; is there a way to set deinterlacing on transcoding? I have tried one HD file and there's quite a bit of combing on it.
