HortDog 0 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 I've seen the tutorials to "Add Users" - but not on the web site or Android App am I seeing a button to push to add a new user. I've spent a couple hours trying to figure it out. Maybe only works on Emby Premium?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Sorry I don't understand. All you do is go to Dashboard-Users and click the "+" sign.
HortDog 0 Posted October 7, 2019 Author Posted October 7, 2019 Sorry; I'm a newbie with Emby - is the dashboard at the link below?http://app.emby.media/
ebr 16184 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Hi. No, your server configuration dashboard. Users
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 (edited) Sorry; I'm a newbie with Emby - is the dashboard at the link below? http://app.emby.media/ That link give you the ability to remote connect to your server once you have created a local user and linked the users Connect username to it. You would access your server dashboard via localhost:8096 or ipaddress:8096. Edited October 7, 2019 by Happy2Play
HortDog 0 Posted October 7, 2019 Author Posted October 7, 2019 I think I know where this going - since I'm connecting to a hosted server; it sounds like I would add the users on Elesium and not on Emby?
HortDog 0 Posted October 7, 2019 Author Posted October 7, 2019 ...sorry posted without reading all your msg - I will try and create the local users next.
ErikaJ 65 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 @@HortDog Good Day...You may be connecting to someone else's server. The owner of that server is the only one who can add any additional users. I suspect you received an "invite" to their server and that is the link you would use to get read only access. Unless of course they gave admin access which then you would be able to add additional users. Cheers...

I thought following the above steps might work and the new users would just be proxying through my account? When I signed up the intent was to wire up PlexTV - but apparently Emby and Plex are two different things. I spent all day yesterday researching how to add to Plex. However; in doing research I came across quite the crowd that prefer Enby - so I'll stick with it for awhile.

However; in doing research I came across quite the crowd that prefer Enby - so I'll stick with it for awhile. I have used Plex, MB, Kodi and a few other media servers in my quest to find the "right" one. I know that is a subjective statement but for me this is what works and I have been using MB for more than 3 years. If you download the Emby server from here, you can then host your own Emby based media server and add the family users as you see fit. Go luck on your testing . Cheers
HortDog 0 Posted October 7, 2019 Author Posted October 7, 2019 It def seems much "easier" than Kodi; that's for sure! Moving to the "hosting" side seems like it opens up opportunities for trouble don't it? I used to live in Canada and it wasn't illegal to stream things but was do d/l them. I live in USA now and my new property has terrible internet, but enough speed where a few can be watching Netflix at once. My brother in-law is from South Wales - he's a big IT something over there; he helped me get this far - I accidentally signed up for MB when I was targeting Plex - and he also always says cheers!
ebr 16184 Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Okay, so it sounds like your brother set you up with your server running on a hosting site. So, if he set you up as an admin account, there should be a cog in the upper right corner of the screen when you log in with the web app. If you click that cog, you will get the server dashboard we are talking about. If you don't have the cog, then your brother must have the admin account...

If you don't have the cog, then your brother must have the admin account... My brother just pointed me to Elysium - told me to sign up and I bought the "only" product I could that was under $15 a month; which turned out to be Enby; not knowing all the moving pieces I thought that was what I was supposed to sign up for. I'm a newbie to this different "way"; a former Kodi user. I didn't know enough about what I was chasing; just signing up at Elysium. He shared his server with me works on Plex amazingly well. Fell in love using Plex; and spent hours trying to sift through why I couldn't wire up Plex to Enby. I'm now finding to get hooked up with Plex seems to be largely unavailable to new folks unless they have an "in". I see articles from users in comparing Enby with Plex and see some are passionate with Enby over Plex. Since I'm still sharing my brothers Plex account; watching especially TV shows; seems to be much less quality in Enby - but I don't know for certain it's across the board to say Plex plays better. Since I'm paying for Enby; I'm giving it a good go before I try some other service that gives me Plex. The help articles on Elysium about sharing users seems to only talk about Plex users; not Enby users at this url: https://manage.elysium.to/faq/setting-up-plex/adding-users-to-server Something else frustrating is this community board would never accept my credentials with Enby; so I had to sign up with another email just to access this group to ask questions. I changed my password many times; can log into Enby but same cred's just never worked on this board. Maybe they truly are separate? I still am very unclear; what I need to do to share my Enby account with another user. Some pointed me to settings on a plex server, but I don't have my own Plex server - and apparently I'm not using Plex, but Enby - so still uncertain what to do. Edited October 8, 2019 by HortDog
ebr 16184 Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Can you please PM me a link to where ever you signed up for this service? Thanks.
ebr 16184 Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Okay, you have signed up with a service provider that uses our software. They are not associated with us at all. So you will have to talk to them about these issues. My guess is that it is not possible for you to create other users. Those other people would have to sign up with them. Thanks.
HortDog 0 Posted October 8, 2019 Author Posted October 8, 2019 Oh man what a drag; I thought Elysium was the good one. Can you recommend where instead I should point? I bought this product straight off of Elysium. The PlexReddit group seems to have a lot of info; but when I find a possibility; some are reporting the site is an outright scam or provides really bad service - hoping to avoid more challenges.
ebr 16184 Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Hi. We are a personal media server meant for you to install to manage and stream your own personal content. We don't provide any content or really condone anyone selling access to content they don't own so cannot point you to any particular service for this. If you have your own content or TV tuner though, you can just follow our guides to install your own server and get up and running. Thanks!
HortDog 0 Posted October 8, 2019 Author Posted October 8, 2019 I understand your disclaimer; but tell me then; since I have an active Elysium/Emby account - why can't I see where to add users to share my login thats hosted at Elysium?

If Elysium controls your server then they may have configured you without administrator rights on the Emby Server. This will prevent you from being able to add users.

I don't think they are "hosting" a server for you. I think they are providing you access to their server (and content).
HortDog 0 Posted October 8, 2019 Author Posted October 8, 2019 Elysium is displaying that my "server" is Enby. To be fair that could just say "xyz" as well; but it sort of implies my server that I'm connecting to is Emby; further muddying the waters. Thank you for your patience as I try and grasp it all. I am a data architect so I'm not totally inept - just some new ground for me.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Elysium provides you with content, correct? It is not your content that you have uploaded to there server, correct? Sounds they are providing you with a service and you are only authorize one user.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 From their website, you are connecting to their server. Note: this is not an appbox, but an invite to our emby server
ErikaJ 65 Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 Dittp on that Happy. Just like Vaders and many others that are no longer in the "game". Cheers
